HI AFN!

brand new to the site but have bin looking through forums for a while now.
Although this isn't our first auto grow were still new-ish to the whole growing world (about a year now) and seeing as we wanted to try and get a really good yield this time i thought this would be the perfect place to get REAL knowledge and help.

20ltr pot
10ltr per min pump with 4 airlines all into pot with 4x50mm airstone balls
250 watt HPS light set at 24inches

i am hoping to be able to bump upto 600 watts eventually but will have to see how it goes.

with be using growers ark nutes

first pic is day 2 in hydro pot. second pic is day 8

will have more info on everything when my botanist gets on here haha

okay so day 9,


im using uk tap water which comes out at 320ppm, once distilled for 24 hours gets to 260ppm and 7.8ph

the seed was in a cup of distilled water for 24 hours then straight into a pre soaked ph'd grodan 3" cube under a 100w lightwave t5 until it sprouted

then moved into dwc on day 3.

up until now ive run the bucket at ph 6.0 and bringing the ppms to 450 with growers ark a + b for hard water and root tonics

after the last 6 days the ppms are at 420-421 ( a celebratory blaze did occur ) so ill move to 500 with a fresh change out tomoro

i have struggled abit to keep the water in range, it really likes to go up to near 7.0 at the minute im thinking a bubbling reservoir for distilling may help to get my base water more stable

one question i have is, with my water being 260ppm's ish, i assume i have ample or excess of cal and mag, seeing as we get alot of limescale etc in our water

but should i treat my ppm's differently to compensate or just accept the ppm's as half decent stuff and use a lower dosage of nutes to acheive the same ppm as a RO user, as well as not worry about any calmag suppliments?

Hi mate :styles rasta: You would disregard your background PPM / EC in most cases ,so 1260 for you would be 1000 ect .

You shouldn't need cal mag for the 1st couple / few of weeks & then maybe start at a really low dose on week 3 ... no more than 1/4 strength

Your PH is best at 5.8 or just below for veg & even better around 5.6 for seedlings (wk 1&2)....never go over 6.0 even in bloom if you can help it bud .

I use filtered tap water and factor the ppm into my calculation. The ppm of the water is 110 -120 so I subtract that from my total when figuring the ppm of what I just put in. If the total ppm of my solution after adding nutrient is 660 the I figure I have added 550 or so. I figure the ppm is cumulative and needs to be counted that way for an accurate measurement of what you are supplying. Regarding the Cal-Mag, I would assume that at least the calcium would be ok. I am sure though that the plants will let you know. Folks here will be able to tell you better than I.
