Hey guys.

I'm just about to harvest my plants.
They will be drying for about 7 days and right after it I will need to travel for 2 weeks and will be away during the first two weeks of curing of course.

My question is what should I do? I know you're supposed to open the jars everyday for the first weeks of curing to circle things around and avoid mold.

But I can't have anyone do it for me unfortunately.

So, Keep the jars closed or opened for this time?

Maybe put some silica drying pads on the jars , of course they will dry a lot but at least avoid losing it to mold?

Or maybe a boveda? Is a boveda 62 capable of working humidity both ways to keep it on point ?

I'm clueless ! Need help!!

If I found myself in such a spot

Sanitation. EVERYTHING has to be sterile or as clean as you can get it. You are going to seal it in with your gold so make sure it is at its best.

Dry the herb well. Make sure you have it down in the ball park of 65% or less. Keep it above 60%. Ideally you would hit around 63-64%.
Use larger jars. I probably would use 1/2 gallon mason jars. Qts are fine if you have a smaller volume. Take care to not pack too tightly.
Boveda 62 in EVERY jar. You will have to rely on the packs to do your burping for you.

cross fingers and hope that I got it right.

Sterility: I think is irrelevant here! Just as long as everything is normal clean, not visibly dirty. Sterility or anything near is hard to achieve. How are you going to sterilize or reduce the microbial burden of the weed? And what about the container and the air touching the weed before and after its in the final container? Curing is a biological process including environmental fungi and bacteria breaking down and digesting diverse undesired biological compounds - sugars/carbohydrates, proteins, plant pigments, nucleic acids, and other debris from dead cells. I presume that one of the functions or by-products of periodic airing/burping is to reinfect/recontaminate the material with fresh microbes from the air and any handling. Obviously, with burping being normal, sterility is definitely not needed.

I would dry it into the mid 50% range, and then seal it up along with Boveda 62s. OR if you have space in your freezer, freeze it after drying, defrost when you get home, and resume curing then (but first check into other peoples experience freezing weed). OR you could check into water curing, see if that will meet your needs.

Thanks guys

I guess I will have to rely on its marketing claims and prey for the best.

From the boveda website:

Code:
Curing with Boveda is as simple as it is perfect.
1. Dry using normal method until stems break (ideally, a tiny bit further)
2. Jar with Boveda. 4g up to 14g of flower, 8g up to 1 ounce, 60g up to one pound, one 60g per pound.
3. Cure as long as you like, no burping required.
4. Enjoy!
What’s happening while it’s curing?
Boveda is fine-tuning by adding or removing moisture from the flower to give it the same moisture content throughout the flower. Burping for the sake of moisture isn’t necessary, so burp only if you like!
We recommend drying a little past ideal so that Boveda’s primary purpose is to give moisture to the flower. That’s because it’s easy to tell when Boveda needs to be replaced – when the entire thing turns into a fairly solid wafer.
When Boveda’s primary use is to remove excess moisture, it’ll still be soft and impossible to tell when it’s absorbed all it can.

is your herb dry and ready for the jars? if so the boveda will hold them fine until you get back. problem is,is that they'll seal in the smell and not properly gas off. so the smoke will smell off and possibly taste a little off. wont be any more or less harsh generally speaking but should hold for you fine untill then. if you have 52's you could use them until you get back.,kepping them a little drier. justa though.
