Indoor Time to Overcrowd My Tents With Mephistos Again

Having a dispensary one block away from my house has made me fat and lazy. I haven’t grown anything in three years, so it’s time to jump back into the game. I’m taking the opportunity to teach my adult niece how to (hopefully) grow her own stash (assuming I remember what I’m doing). I dropped seeds for a soak earlier today/. Here’s what we got:

I have a 2x4 tent and a 2x2.5 tent.

I’m running 3 autocobs in the 2x4 and a Quantum Board by HLG in the 2x2.5.

In the 2x4 tent, I’ve got four #3 airpots with Roots Organic 70/30 mix. In the 2x2.5, I have a one gallon hempy bucket with a 60/40 mix of perlite and vermiculite.

I dropped two seeds each of five different Mephisto strains. Three are brand new seeds and two are some pretty old seeds I had laying around:

Mephisto’s Wedding
Creme De La Chem
Strawberry Nuggets
Cosmic Queen (old)
Bluetoof Special (old)

I dropped two of each to see whether one inch rockwool cubes or jiffy pellets is better for germinating and growing seedlings (and to show my niece that there’s more than one way to skin a cat).

I’ll be using MegaCrop, Carboload and CaliMagic.

When I have something above ground, I’ll drop back by with some photos.

Two days ago (31 August), the Cosmic Queen popped her head up. Yesterday (1 September), the Creme De La Chem was above ground. No others have germinated yet. None of the seeds in Jiffy pellets had done anything - so I chucked them all into the trash. I planted all of the rock wool cubes into their respective containers. If the remaining seeds (Strawberry Nuggets, Wedding and Bluetoof Special) don’t show up in the next 3 to 4 days, I’ll start over with them.

So I’m going to call today Day 2.

I’m starting off this first week with 1 g/gal of MegaCrop and 1/8 tsp/gal of Greenleaf Nutrients Sea Kelp.

Well…it’s been a little over three weeks since I’ve updated anything. I’ve actually been busy killing seedlings and growing mutants. I deserve it for trying to germinate old seeds. I killed three seedlings. I started three more seeds that then refused to germinate. One Cosmic Queen sprouted and refused to grow. I planted a Walter White that started growing all twisted but is seemingly making a comeback. I do have five plants that are growing pretty OK for now…and if you add the funky Walter White, I have six plants going.

Day 30 / Day 23 / Day1

Everything is cruising right along except the poor mutant Water White which may end up getting an early axe if it doesn’t turn it around quickly. Ain’t nobody got time for mutant stragglers. I’ve upped the nutrients to 4.5 g/gal. of MegaCrop and 1 mg/gal. of Sea Kelp. I’ve started adding 2 ml/l of Carboload and 2 ml/l of CALiMAGic. Did a bit of defoliation to open things up a bit and to prevent eventual crowding. Here are the pics:

Just curious but how old were the seeds?

They were all 7+ years old. Unfortunately, I never bothered to store them properly in the fridge because I always thought I was going to grow more than I actual did. I would pull off some fluke monster grow and end up smoking the same strain for months on end. I eventually started to grow more and smaller plants, but I couldn’t manage to keep up. Then I just stopped growing when they opened a dispensary that’s only a two minute walk from my front door. The seeds have been sitting in a cool dark closet for three years without me even looking at them

I kinda did the same when I first bought some seeds. I just threw them in my safe for like 2 years lol.
Then after I started piecing together my grow tent I kinda went nuts buying up what I could. At this point I started to store them correctly in the fridge.

But I had a really good first grow with those first seeds I bought.
I tried to germinate the last seed I had from that first order but she didn't break soil. So I just used something else.

Things are cruising right along in the tents this week. I’m still feeding all plants 4.5 mg/gal of MegaCrop, 0.75 mg/gal of Sea Kelp, 6 ml/gal of Carboload, and 4 ml/gal of CaliMagic. Here are a few notes:

I culled the Walter White. He was severely stunted. Probably my fault, but I don’t have time or the space to mess with runts.

I defoliated my two plants in 1.25 L hempy containers so I could more easily water them.

I did a little more defoliation here and there on my Airpot Creme De La Chem and Mephisto’s Wedding.

Per Mephisto’s recommendations, I’m not doing any defoliation or LST on the Strawberry Nuggets. I’m just tucking leaves when I notice them.

The Creme De La Chem in the airpot seems to have stalled out a little bit. The Mephisto’s Wedding has overtaken her in height.

The Lemon Cherry Cookies are growing right along. The one in the airpot seems to be doing a bit better than the one in the one gallon hempy bucket. We’ll have to wait and see if this hold true for the remainder of the grow.

Well…life has a way of knocking you down and then kicking the crap out of you while you’re down. I got an infection in my foot which turned into an infection in a couple of bones in my foot. I’ve been in and out of the hospital several times and I had to have a toe amputated. In fact, I’m still recovering. Needless to say, I was not able to keep up with this grow at all. Luckily, my adult niece was able to pick up the slack and drive it over the finish line. Now she’s not great a reading plants and making adjustments. And this was her first grow. She didn’t take too many photos, but I do have a few.

The two FastBuds Lemon Cherry Cookies are still going. They’re probably going to harvested in roughly three more weeks. Here’s how the bigger one looks:

Here are the wet weight numbers for what we’ve already harvested:

Cosmic Queen - 125g
Crème De La Chem - 368g
Strawberry Nuggets - 315g
Mephisto’s Wedding - 351g

If we can get 25% of those figures for dry weights, we’re looking at roughly 10.5 ounces off of 5 plants. Maybe an additional 4 to 6 ounces off of the remaining two plants…for roughly a pound. Not a bad grow for a first timer and an old man.
