Indoor Tips for LST and getting even canopy.

Wassup guys I was wondering if someone can help school me on LST or give tips for getting an even canopy.

I grow in a 3x3 ft grow tent and can comfortably fit 4 plants. On my past grows I have always had that one main cola and then the smaller popcorn nuggets.

I have plants at different ages and like growing different strains at once so a SCrog doesn't really work for my small tent.

Can someone who uses LST tell me how they do it and when u should start to tie them down and all that...it seems to me it won't do anything but help so I mine as well learn :thumbs:

You can get very high tech or pretty low tech. Just about anything will work, some you need to plan ahead some are on the fly.

Some guys will make up screens that have a hole in the center which they put on when the plant is young and it basically grows in the center of the screen, and that gives you a wide assortment of places to attach wire or string or fishing line. I've used fishing line and string mostly personally.

I've also tied on weights to a branch like fishing weights, to using big binder clips and string, just clip the binder clips to the edge of the bucket and tie a string to a shoot. Don't go crazy pulling all you want at once, just give it some tension. Next day or so take a little more. Or move the string towards the end of the shoot and it will be more flimsy. I have a post here about amnesia in 24 hours and what happened with some lst like I described. you'll get an idea. Its all pretty simple, just go slower and eventually you will get the plant bent right over. I've also done super cropping to get the tops to lay over, and that works fine too, not exactly lst but higher stress. All depends on what you want and how quickly you want to get there.

When I used to PC grow, I would start LSTing, when my stems looks as tho they would be strong enough to tie down a bit. In my eyes the earlier the better, easier to keep it manipulated throughout. I just poke holes into the side of the pots and I use hemp string to tie down branches, and as time goes by, I would tie down more as she grew.:smokebuds:hope that little bit of info gives you an idea.

regarding LST and when to start just like stylez said -- the earlier the better.

doesnt mean start tying them down when you see the first set of leaves -- i would say start when the plant has established roots.

in my case -- i slowly started the lst (spreading the fan leaves) around the 3rd week mark.
- continuing to adjust as the plant continues to grow (could be daily adjustment -- or every other day whenever)
- when you tie on one end -- make sure to have a counter tie on the opposite side (so you dont pull the plant out of the soil)
- dont be afraid to bend the lady as far as possible (please be very careful not to snap her in half
- dont be afraid to tuck the fan leaves or tie them out of the way to expose more budsites
- LST doesnt have to be released -- you can keep the plant tied down all her life if you choose to (that is up to you)
- i choose to let my girls reach for the lights from time to time -- then back in bondage mode the next day

- i use tape to hold the strings in place
- you can use weights/paperclips/ etc.

hey Fweedom,

Nice to see you, I got a tip maybe to use. when you LST, make a circle around the pot with your stalk, putting ties on an inch or three apart until it goes almost a complete circle, then let it grow up from there.

not necessarily.

you can tie down as much or as little as you want.

you can have the main cola grow straight if you choose then just slowly spread the lower branches to receive light and grow bigger.

"counter tie" << lol sorry bro i was under the influence when i responded as well.

basically a tie on the main stem the opposite direction of the first bend.

ie: you bend to the right -- counter tie or tension to the left''
