Mephisto Genetics Toof Decay F5 vs F6 discussion

Yeah was my understanding but it just kinda wasnt something I was paying attention to and so I kinda just posted this thread and it's actually a really good talking point and thank you for the information! I wanna hear your thoughts on the f7 sour stomper. Have you run any other new gen originals yet?

Good info! And I wonder exactly what the traits being locked in are this year for mephistos updated "next generation" of originals. Remember when we did that double grape grow off that sparked the lst release of souble grape? I thought that was so cool that they then went back and worked it down another generation. I wonder if during the reworking of things like double grape and some of the even newer illuminautos they found even better traits and were working with those on the new strains and decided to release then?

Postulation...
I feel like mephisto was probably trying to not tell us so we wont dump our old stock as inferior (since it's not at all!).

Anyway, now i am just a very happy camper. But wondering... is this now a standard thing? Will they be reworking all their strains as they age to be further refined?
I do remember that. That's how Double Grape got put back on the menu as part if their regular line up! And yes, making further f-generations is standard protocol for almost all breeders, photo and auto.. Most breeders have a vision or end goal in mind of what they would like the plant to look like, grow like, and smoke like. Then they grow out hundreds of seeds looking for that special female that meets their requirements, and use it to breed the next generation. It's called "working a line" or "true breeding". Company's that sell F1 generations and just stop at f1 are basically just making crosses for a money grab. You don't see it that much with autos because true auto company's like Mephisto start with a photo period plant and work that plant into an auto, which takes about 3 generations. So most of the reputable autos are at f3/f4 before we get them. The highest generation I've seen for an auto is f6. I think after f6 you start to open the door for recessive traits to start showing back up and other common inbreeding issues. I have a Magnum opus photo strain from Aficionados that was released as an f13. Almost every plant is identical! Getting to that point is the ultimate goal for most breeders.

///begin rant unrelated to toof decay f5 or f6 discussion
It was a fun time. Back before I paid attention to the big grow battles. Kinda think afn lost it's way a bit in the battles... but HOTT is gonna be nice to alleviate that. Then the community things like those type of grow offs can happen again here and then the big community pushed strains can go viral. Man I was, sincerely and honestly, so bummed and annoyed when I had to buy the 10 pack of dg because I really only had the money for the 5 pack... looking back. I still have 7 seeds from the illuminautos drop and I'm laughing because I'm sure theres a lot of you out there who would go nuts to have even 1 of the illuminautos dg. Heck I've yet to open most of the the whole 20's illuminautos drop minus blue toof (ran em all) and gold glue(ran 2). Got all 10 of the 20 series of the illuminautos drop in 5 seed packs... but that's my treat to me. Been properly stored the whole time.

My time for a bigger space is coming soon(few more months away, the date is set, I have a new 4x4x6 tent with a Mars hydro 600 old series from before and a viparspectra 600 equivalent for it too). The day is closing in faster and faster. I've got so many seeds long gone. Those Tyrone special seeds like I did that 125g in 60 days in dwc in 2017, got like 8 of them. Still got a single grape crinkle... waiting to learn sts to reverse that rarity. Maybe everyone has all those still but remembering I still have those makes me realize... I have so many. The problem enlies that so many of these strains are just not ones that have reports from medical users and so I've stayed away from them.

It seems the originals are being bred down further because they have the widest reviews and a lot of positive medical reviews too. My plan is to go through the back log of the last 4 years and have my hubby rate which strains work best for his seizures and I'll rate for pain and headaches and we both can rate for insomnia

Fyi 24c is now at f7 sour crack is at f8 now. Crazy. I give mephisto 5 more years and they can get a sour crack pheno yo harvest in 50-55 days vs 55-60.

I enjoy knowing what to expect from a certain strain or plant, yet growing from seed, I also enjoy the unknown. I find it exciting to see what type of plant or phenotype emerges, especially for plants that I've grown multiple times. Sometimes they are very similar, other times quite different.
