I do remember that. That's how Double Grape got put back on the menu as part if their regular line up! And yes, making further f-generations is standard protocol for almost all breeders, photo and auto.. Most breeders have a vision or end goal in mind of what they would like the plant to look like, grow like, and smoke like. Then they grow out hundreds of seeds looking for that special female that meets their requirements, and use it to breed the next generation. It's called "working a line" or "true breeding". Company's that sell F1 generations and just stop at f1 are basically just making crosses for a money grab. You don't see it that much with autos because true auto company's like Mephisto start with a photo period plant and work that plant into an auto, which takes about 3 generations. So most of the reputable autos are at f3/f4 before we get them. The highest generation I've seen for an auto is f6. I think after f6 you start to open the door for recessive traits to start showing back up and other common inbreeding issues. I have a Magnum opus photo strain from Aficionados that was released as an f13. Almost every plant is identical! Getting to that point is the ultimate goal for most breeders.
