New Grower Topping Autos...

Thats surprising. I've not done hempy yet but I'm going to start a hempy bucket within the next week or two. After doing a lot of reading on them they seem pretty simple in comparison to DWC for example. Hempy is definitely supposed to be faster than soil. How do you feed in hempy? something like feed - feed - water repeat? what medium are you using for your buckets?

You might have ran into a problem that I've read about. I don't remember the name of it though. Apparently the roots never reach the res at the bottom of the hempy bucket. Instead they reach the top of the bottom layer of medium and pool there instead of reaching through the perlite at the bottom and hitting the nute water.

The roots hit the bottom I can see them through the drain hole. Hempys are pretty simple. I've grown some nice plants in them. I had a nice sweet seeds growing, two road runners all at the same time. Feed,feed water and repeat. I went by the hempy write up in the hydro forum.I'm using 100% perlite.

When you mean "second node", you're saying you've performed a "FIM" over the second pair of true leaves, am I understanding it right?

Like you topped the main stain, leaving the two nodes "intact", the second one bowl like, right?

Well actually at the first set of true leaves is where I snipped.I'm not having a problem with growing it, it just made since to try and top cause I'm using such a small container to cultivate in. In my mind it all just fit. Like I said just an experiment. I normally grow in 1 to 3 gallon hempys.

oo Maybe you would have better luck with a different medium? Maybe 75% perlite 25% verm or coco. Or 50/50.

I like the way some of these coco grows look and have thought about doing one. I think it would be a good idea to add verm or coco, the 100% perlite drys out real fast man.

Yea I was considering going 100% perlite but I read about people having to water like crazy. Think I'm going to go like 50/50 coco/perlite with perlite res.

Thanks man! I should be getting started on it asap. Waiting on the moonies to come and then I'm going to order all the supplies along with some new beans. ITS SO ADDICTING SHOPPING FOR BEANS! ;D

Ya, it seems to me, if one were so inclined, that early on during the wait right before the growth spurt, would be a good time to top. Please don't do this based on my post! I am a newbie and this is def a postulation. As I was just waiting and waiting for my little auto to take off as they are prone to do, I thought man, if one were going to top a plant, now would be the time to do it. Again, I'm not sure, but I thought that time was spent making roots so to top it would not set it back as much as topping it while it was concentrating on growing veg up and out? Makes sense in theory.
Can't wait til my seed runs are over, I AM GOING TO TRY SO MANY DIERENT THINGS with all my free seeds!! Hell, I might grow 1 upside down like those crazy tomato plants on TV!! Why not?! It's not like I would have paid $10-$15 per seed or anything crazy like that...
