I have a regular purple kushmatic in a one gal pot. I wanted a male so I wasn't worried about it getting real big, but its staying real low and have a feeling its going to be a girl, if so I want to get the most I can out of her and I'm going to need to put here in a bigger pot but never gone about transplanting since autos can be planted in their final pot. I was wondering if any of you guys transplanted a auto sucessfully and do you have any tips for me? I'm on day 12 so I have about a week or two before I see signs of sex so I have time to prep. Thanks for your time guys :peace:

I think transplanting works fine if you plan on doing so right from the start, and can match the starting pot size to the time you wish to transplant. I find that if the root ball can contain the soil, and the soil is dry, transplanting usually goes well. It sounds as though you have a bigger pot than a young plant will be able to fill for a while, so there probably won't be a coherent root ball. My advice would be to thoroughly dry the soil first (tricky in a big pot), then proceed with utmost care.

I would transplant it ASAP and not wait for sex to show. Imo that's your best chance to not stunt it much.

A one gallon pot is plenty big enough to grow in until it sexes. I routinely start all my plants in 1/2 gallon containers and transplant after they sex. Let it dry as Dr. Who has suggested as it will help to keep the root ball intact. Loosen the soil around the sides of the pot, then gently remove it from the pot and try to disturb the roots as little as possible. I normally place the stem between my index and middle fingers, then turn the pot upside down and it should slide out easily. Place it in the new pot, fill in the soil and give it a good watering/feeding. It should be back to full growth in 24 - 36 hours after the transplant.

dont feed when transplanting , you dont want to risk burning new root tips before they get cumfy and healthy in their new space , only water , let it be dry before the transplant like mentioned , and i dont see it as stunting them , it can however stall them from 2 days to 2 weeks depending on how easily it went and takes to it

best of luck

Another technique I have not done but have seen on this and other sites is simply cutting the bottom off of your pot and putting the old pot 1/2 down the larger pot so the roots can just keep going out the bottom and you don't disturb the roots at all. I see it mostly with solo cups into 1-3 gallon pots though - just a suggestion if you can't do the turn over technique as mentioned above.

Do a search for tiered planting and you'll find plenty of information and growers here who use that technique.

@b0b. I always feed when transplanting and have never had issues with burning the root tips.

I would love to do that but i use Plant warrior pots and dont want to ruin a pot just to transplant but thanks for that tip, if i start any in a cup then that would be the route i would choose but, im going to have to do it the hard way which is fine with me. i will wait for it to sex before i do anything i dont want to switch pots and it end up being male as for i dont need a big male. thanks for the replies i will have to update to let you know how it turns out.
