Hey, Trapper, as old as your gal is, I'd say any decent potting soil would work to cover those roots, or you could buy a small bag of those pebbles all the garden stores sell. I think the main thing is to keep 'em from the light.

just a colloquial use of the word, operating as identifier for pistils/hairs....IMO

A calyx is technically the little green, stringy deals that come off the junctions at the nodes of stalk/branch, whereas the pistils
are the actual hairs.
