Hey AFN,

Following the heartwarming reception from the AFN community on a thread recently created, I've decided to start allocating most of my post material here, for the sake of keeping it organized and easier to access.

As a little introduction, I've been growing since 2013. After few random bagseed guerrilla outdoor grows, I've moved indoors with the first wave of Day-Neutral/Autoflowering genetics. After becoming a forum lurker (AFN, ICMAG, MNS, etc), I've grown interested with mostly NLD/equatorial/"sativa" side of the spectrum and landraces/heirloom/non-commercial varieties. From there on until a few years ago that's what I did. For the most part. Since the start, always organic, always soil, always living. What else?

After some time away from my passion and time-shifting to the present, I've decided to get my hands down to work again and see what's the current state-of-affairs regarding Day-Neutral genetics. Let's see what they have to offer!

I'll be posting my journey here from now on.

To get the show started, a few shots from a MBAP x 3BOG at D66.

Glad to be back,
tZ

Thank you Blue. :)

They went through a lot already. During mid flowering, I had the main air circulation fan malfunction so they went a few days with extremely harsh temperatures without any moving air (high VPD stress). They manage to take it, come back and are packing some weight.
Smelling like candy/bubblegum, a bit like canned peaches with an hint of sourness.

Gorgeous plant.

A ten year lurker! Boy that puts my initial delay into perspective.

At any rate, welcome to AFN. It looks as though you may be providing more advice than looking for help, and that is a fine thing for us newcomers.

I look forward to seeing your grows. :pighug:

Not exactly lurking for 10 years, but hey, kinda!

Although a great deal of my experience lies in the photoperiod realm, the core knowledge is mostly interchangeable. I've scrubing the rust of my AF-fu, and I can thank you all for that.

What I've noticed since back then (c.2013 or maybe even a bit early) is that oh BOI! did AF cultivars progressed. I ran a few times the first versions of Fast Bud and Cream Caramel from Sweet Seeds. I also helped out a friend with DPs first release of Think Different, of which he did a fair number (+20 plants) in a single run. Although they where all nice to have and had their place, even the best where pretty subpar in comparison with other commercial varieties I had sampled.
After a while I moved away from both commercial varieties and AF genetics as well.

From what I've been able to experience recently with Mephisto genetics, either I've been having a lot of dog in the last few years, to the point of having my judgment pretty dumbed down, or the progress is really surreal! Impressive terpene production, of both class and quantity, as well as a very respectable structure and yield. Definitely grower's plants. Regarding the rest, I can't comment much yet, but I'm hyped with my hands glued together already.

Thanks for all the kind words.

I'm too new back into the growing and smoking game(took about forty years off from using weed) to compare the new autos to what was available until recently, but I am certainly impressed with the autos I have grown. They all, so far, kick my backside, and smelling the curing bud from all the strains I have grown is a fine pleasure to my nose. Some of them smell downright spectacular. Mephisto Cosmic Queen, and Seedsman Strawberry Cheesecake come to mind...

I have done three Mephisto strains now, and they were all golden. Ditto for a couple Seedsman strains that I did last winter. It seems that there are lots of high quality genetics out there. Too many strains, too little time.

Long time without posting and quick update:

I'm running a fewMango Smile from Mephisto, and decided to select one to reverse and fully pollinate two others to have seeds for future endeavors (you know how they come in handy).

Bellow are the bonsai seedmothers and the reversed pollen donor.

Meanwhile I'll create a thread over on Mephisto's side to document the journey.

Hope you enjoy!

Hey AF!

Harvested this gorgeous hydra a couple weeks ago. Thought I'd pass by to drop you this picture.

I'll be updating my Mango Smile grow journal in a few days when there's some spare time, covering the last few weeks of their life cycle.

What's up AF?

I've finally finished Mephisto's Mango Smile grow diary and given my final thoughts about how it went.

You can check it out, link to the thread on previous post.

I've been planning on exploring few seedlots acquired throughout the years, some of them stored on the fridge for almost a decade now.

Due to that, I'll move away from growing autos for a while. There are a few overlapping projects, such as crosses between some of the selections I'll be doing and some of the best autos I've ran across, though these will be further down the line.

I'll share my journey with you from time to time. Soon Ill will be uploading a few pictures of the varieties I currently am testing.

Thanks for passing by and have fun.

Currently testing ACE Thai Chi (Thai 'Chiang Mai' x Kali China F4) and Compound Genetics La Bomba (Wedding Cake x Jet Fuel Gelato).

The Thai Chi have very special and unique aromas. I've got mostly a combination of onion/garlic/bay leaf/spices, floral and woodsy. My favorite from the sample (N=4) is #4, which has a slightly different makeup with the same base notes. It's a pineapple/litchi acidic aroma, with the base of spices and woods. Can be thought as incense-like too. One of my favorite profiles I've ran across.
Due to their Thai ancestry (50% after all) their structure is very tropical influenced and the stretch is real (6x in my case). Their floral clusters are more meaty than a pure Thai, with beautiful fat stacks of bracts and running foxtails. There are few going purple even in hot weather, remarkable display of traits.
Due to their stretch and plenty of side branching, growing them turned out to be a bit messy as I could have prepared better, though they are quite vigorous plants and tolerate a bunch of stuff. Pictures don't do them justice due to the difficulty in accessing and picturing them.

Thai Chi 5. Floral, spicy and woodsy. Beautiful structure.
Thai Chi 5.jpg

Thai Chi 2. Sour lemon with the same base.
Thai Chi 2.jpg

Compound's La Bomba. They are highly worked North American genetics, centered around inbred GSC, OGs, and Diesel family, with a splash of G13Hz, the White and Blue Moonshine. A bit stretchy, like some Diesels are known to behave. All 4 of them have a Diesel traits both in structure and base aroma, a cut grass, chemical and fuel combination.
LB1 is the most rank and borderline offensive. Straight chemical and aldehydic, short structure, beautiful folded and contoured leaf sides with purple tones.
LB 1-2.jpg

LB2. Doesn't project a whole lot for now, though she has that typical Sour Diesel thing, both in aroma and structure. Cut grass, fuel and aldehydes.
LB 2.jpg

LB3 has the same base as all others, though with a ripe strawberry and peachy aroma. Can also be thought as some type of jello. It's a peculiar combination, almost like a strawberry old lady perfume. Though I wasn't able to picture it yet. The LB4 is similar to LB3, though less fruity and without that strawberry present in there.
LB 3.jpg

There are nice surprises in both varieties, having the chance to grow them at the same time is just a treat to the senses.

See you soon!
