Any noticeable plant deficiencies : For maximum growth and yield the plant can only handle the V300 for the first 5 to 6 weeks, I augment the V300 with a 125w cfl to add heat to the tent. Once she has matured the COB will provide more than enough red for flowering but I will have to add a large red cfl to keep temps up.

Value for Money Rating..1-5: 5 for the price per unit but 4 since I needed more red for flowering, hence I had to buy another unit.

Additional info : I've had to review both these panels together as I cannot recommend either of them alone for a complete seed to harvest grow.
Downsides;
The COB unit is too strong for a young plant in my height tent, if it was a 2m tent I have a feeling it wouldn't stress it as much but I feel it is lacking enough blue spectrum for vegging anyway and with no white light either it's not the best.

The V300 just hasn't got the power or the reds to take a large plant all the way to a decent harvest.

The good stuff;
The COB unit puts out a very intense and focused beam so there really is only one place for it in a tent of 1.5m high and that is attached tight up close to the roof!
The beam of the light from there covers the whole tent up to a height of 1m, so proportionally if you have a mathematical head you'll be able to work out what it will cover in your own tent but if not PM me and I'll work it out :)
Keeping it up high means that only the hardiest of the colas will get up close and by that stage they love the intensity.
I've got no idea if the green light helps but I'm positive the reds do lol.

The V300 I have used four times now and it's most definitely my panel of choice for vegging. The girls love the whites and blues, the IR seems to do no harm at all and they all need a bit of red from the start!

These two panels are proving to be excellent as a team in my size tent and would probably work well together for up to 2 plants in up to a 1.5x1.5x2m tent.

Where one lacks a bandwidth the other comes into play. I've learnt my lesson as far as using the COB at first but I will be using both panels from about 6 weeks onwards.

excellent review Bilbo the vipar cob 400 looks good and the price is good as far as cob lighting goes. Do you think they would be good for flowering only?

The COB was awesome to bring my last grow to an early harvest, I genuinely think it would have been about 1/3 less without it.
The reason I got it was that it was too hot during the summer to add the big red cfl I would normally use, I want big yields as I'm only doing one plant at a time and I am the first to admit the V series panels are best for vegging and then side lighting during flowering.
I started my current grow with just the COB and it was like a death ray for a seedling, all the problems I was having cleared up when I switched back to the V panel so unless you've got at least a 2m high tent I wouldn't use it until the plant is tough enough to take the intensity. The seedlings leaves were almost see through under the cob, very pale green and although I raised the nutes and added even more calmag the COB was the reason. I suspect it was breaking down the cells in the leaves and the chlorophyll was disappearing.

Nice job on the review Bilbo!
