Greetings. My 17 day old blueberry has begun showing signs of lighter coloration. This is happens 24 hours I gave it its first feeding. Here is an excerpt from that post, "Day 16. I gave the two a small feeding today of Alaska Fish Fertilizer with a side of cal/mg. 1 1/2 tsp of AFF along with 1/4 tsp of cal/mg to 3 liters of water. The AFF calls for 1 tsp per quart and the cal/mg calls for the light feeding at 1tsp per gallon. I'm hoping I was conservative enough with my nute measurements. I'll wait to see what the two tell me!". Thanks for your time.

:toke:Musky- What soil are you in? Is it a fairly rich one? I think the fish goo might have made things a bit rich in there, hence the mild yellowing at the tips,...depending on your soils built-in richness, feeding should be adjusted with that in mind-- sometimes it's hard to gauge!... fish goo needs to be broken down by the soil herd too, as it's largely unavailable until then, but that doesn't stop it from having effects on the roots,... did you use any inoculants or EWC tea before? This is especially important if you're going to be using organic nutes, for the same reasons,... and of course, pH testing often, and adjusted feeds,... I see this common misunderstanding about organic nutes not needing pH adjusting, or soil testing,... as far as I know, only folks doing genuine, well made TLO (true living organics) type soils can get away with this.... Fish goo is great, but the 5-1-1 won't be good enough for P and K for long; check the pH of the soil, and skip feeding for a bit until that round gets working and the leaves calm down,.. what other nutes do you have?

Hey Waira! I have them in Happy Frog Soil-I have heard it is already somewhat nutrient rich. No inoculants or EWC (not sure what that is...) I think you hit the nail on the head with this being a misunderstanding, the amount of research I did before using the organic nutes was minimal. My fault, I need some more education. I check the PH of the mixture and it registered at 6.9. I went ahead and left it at that and did not adjust. For other nutes, I have the Fox Farm trio. As well has some Cal/Mg Plus. And while I have you, is the Cal/Mag supplementing going to a weekly addition to the waterings? or can I the implement Cal/Mag with each of my waterings?

.... Well, my first concern would be the pH of that HF soil, as Fuxfarms has been horrible these days about badly acidic, poorly cooked soil-- I'm talking in-bag pH's in the low 5's! :nono: - I have tested several, even at the stores, to show the sales folks what's happening! ...instant problems, basically, but some folks seems to get the occasional bag that's still okay, and it sounds like you're one of them-? Otherwise HF is good, mild soil, less hot than Ocean Forest...Have you taken a pH reading of the soil? One thing I highly recommend is a soil pH probe (the Accurate 8 is a good meter for the money), for direct measurement, vs. the dubious run-off method,... that one has several sources of potential measurement error inherent to it, but there is a "sticky" article here in the Infirmary, on the contents page near the top that helps limit them-- quickie reference for run-off testing,... Check it out, and you can even test the bag soil instead, since your plant/soil is still this young... soil pH is best around 6.5, to allow some wiggle room for natural drift,...as you've seen, feeds tend to be acidic, but well lime-amended soil can help buffer this beyond what you do after initial mixing and adjusting,... Point is, knowing what your soil pH is will dictate, in part, what you pH your feeds to, in order to help counteract or maintain what the soil pH is at the time...trust me, when it comes to pH, prevention is 10-fold easier than cure! Here's a great pH nutrient availability chart (from the defc. picture depot thread, here as well)-

.... EWC, earth worm castings, used to make a poop-tea! A great source of mild nutrients, and if the bag is in good shape and fresh, full of beneficial microbes,.... teas don't have to be complex, a simple one can just be about 1.5cups castings/gal dechlorinated water, with 1T/gal molasses to sugar-spike the 'crobes, or even add some inoculant to that as well to supercharge the 'crobe count.. bubble it for a day, then just pour it in, and top dress with the remaining muck!
... the Ca-Mg supp' early on can be 1-2 times a week (note if your soil is amended with lime--yours is), not every feed, or even to be necessarily included with the other feeds,.. sometimes I stagger things to keep the ppm count lower, rather than put everything in at once-- maybe water with just the Ca-Mg;,... however, note that the Ca-Mg can help buffer your feed solution, if that's needed; most are carbonate based, and it's the carbonates that do the buffering of acidic solutions,... Molasses can be a nice alternate supp', as it has some Ca, Mg, K and a little Fe in it, plus the sugars! :coffee:... later, near blooming and through to the end, use the Ca-Mg more regularly.... keep in mind, most base nute's have some Ca and Mg in it already, but some strains seem to be hogs; LED's seem to cause higher demand,... :greenthumb: :goodluck:

Awesome stuff W. Not so awesome to hear about the FF soils being poorly concocted, boo! I have an Accurate 8 soil probe coming in the mail. That tool is going to be immense, it can't come soon enough. Under the notion that the soil is too "hot", how does one correct the nutrient rich soil? Corrected by adjusted waterings? Thanks again for taking your time Waira. Answering frantic questions from inexperienced growers, ha, doesn't seem too appealing, but you're on these posts like white on rice :headbang:
Also, you mentioned or asked if I used and EWC or inoculants before the AFF (Alaskan Fish Fertilizer). Those are a precursor or basically prepare the soil and build a high microbe count?
