Watering question

So let me just make sure I know for sure now. I know that when the babies have there first drink il give it a good soak so water runs out the bottom of my pots. Is it the same when I give them nutes? Mix up plenty and give it a real good soaking? Or add a bit with nutes in then a good soaking with water? Cheers in advance

The first few waterings on a seedling I do in a circle around the stem w/ just enough water to make a circle that reaches the bottom of the pot ... I will sometimes use enough water to exit the bottom of the pot but I don't wet the entire pot not until a plant is large enough to use all that water ... otherwise you end up w/ a pot that stays wet too long ...

I'd agree with the above post - try and avoid watering the seedling - water the pot around it - or if it has a base you can put water in the base and allow the compost to draw up moisture - just make sure to pour off any excess after watering. This leaves the top of the compost fairly dry and can avoid 'dampening off' problems. If you have good compost adding nutrients at such a young stage can be more harmful than beneficial imo.
