Indoor What are my babies complaining about?

You'll need to test the Ph of whats going in ... and then take the PH of the first bit of run off (what's coming out) .

With these 2 figures, you can calculate the soil PH with the following formula

Rough Calculation Guide:

Here's some good info on ph.....
If your runoff pH is higher than your starting pH, use this equation to determine your soil pH:*
Soil pH = Runoff pH + Difference

If your runoff pH is lower than your starting pH, us this equation:
Soil pH = Runoff pH - Difference.

For example, say your the starting pH of your solution before it goes in is 6.5 and the pH of your runoff is 7.0. The difference is +0.5, so using the above equation:
Soil pH = 7.0 + 0.5*
Soil pH = 7.5

If your starting pH is 6.5 and your runoff is 6.0, your difference is -0.5 and using the above equation:
Soil pH = 6.0 - 0.5
Soil pH = 5.5

i just tested the water that i have (a little bit of left over nutrients in it) with good pH strips and the water came out to about 5.5ish.

I've never heard of a good PH strip :p hehe

Yeah - you need to test what your water is before you feed the plant. and then test to see what PH the first bit of water comes out the bottom (slowly water until you see drops coming from the bottom and collect that - dont' let the plant pot sit in the run off water)

Then you need to apply the forumla above :)

I've never heard of a good PH strip :p hehe
I personally hate those things... They led me astray many times while dealing with my fish tank. Didn't even bother to consider them with growing.

these tests strips have multiple indicator compounds. they are much more accurate, i had access to them so its what ill use haha
