It can be done, but make sure your not drawing too much power on that 1 cord. In the U.S. (15A circuit) I wouldn't put more than 1000w on one cord. All depends on the guage of the cord and what size breaker, ect. Your electrician friends should now basic safety issues. Dion's advice is good.
