Perhaps ask (or tell us): "What problems do I currently have that need to and will be fixed or improved by this upgrade?" What are you having problems with removing from your water? Will this 50 mesh filter (allowing passage of all particulates smaller than about 300 microns/.3 mm) fix your problem(s)? Do you really need a finer inline paper-, charcoal- or other type of filter?

Why not fix whatever the problem is with your nutes that make you need a filter? And are you currently using or do you have a big enough growing operation to need 1/2-inch connections (seems overkill if just in a tent)?

Keep in mind, 2 (or even more) progressively smaller pore filters - a pre-filter before the main/end filter - is better than a single one, particularly if clogging of filters is a problem.

Hi! Sorry for not clarifying. I am building my own reservoir and buying a new autopot kit(aqua valve 5) without a tank. I couldn’t find any info on the standard filter or upgraded filter models. Seems the only thing I could find was the DIY pleated filter a poster had created.

just was interested if the amazon 50 micron was enough. Or if the autopot filter was better/worth it.

Looking for best practice.

thanks!

Still no mention of what you need/want to filter out. If you don't have nutes settling, algae growing in tubing, or other visible gunking-up of lines and valves, you may not need a filter.

Maybe, look into whether you really want to ask about a circulating or air pump for the reservoir to prevent mixed nutrient sediment formation (perhaps the root cause/problem to address).

I see. I would have assumed all of the above. But I won’t know, or have that answer for you, until I purchase a system and use it. Based on your advice, I guess I’m best off not to using one at all! I was just trying to use the best filter as a precautionary measure, but now see I was stupid. I’ll save the money.

thanks for you advice !!

I think it better to work to prevent any sediment or gunking problems, such as by slow mixing of the reservoir, rather than try to prevent damage from having these problems.

Of course, it can't hurt to have an inline filter. It adds some assurance, but patching anything in also adds risk (leakage). A simple cheap one should be good enough, until you have a problem that a different or additional filter would fix.
