Hi guys, been googling around and checking the forum, but couldn't find an answer to this. I know people use things like water chillers to lower temps, but what do they use to SEE at what temp is the water sitting?

If you can specify which product worked for you, all the better!

Thanks in advance beautiful people of AFN

I drain about 2 cups water out of the reservoir and check the temperature of that with my ppm pen.
Then I pour it back in while checking/adjusting nutes/pH.
It would be nice to have a probe with remote readout, but this method only adds a few seconds to what I was going to do anyway.
The Pulse Nano will probably add this feature in the future.

Aquarium heater in winter, refrigerator bottles in the summer to keep res temp correct.

I have a blue lab guardian for the temp, EC and ph.
I then use an aquarium heater set at desired temp and this remains stable.

Hey man, can I ask how you find the guardian, interval between calibrations, reliability, is it the wireless connect version??

Yeah, aquarium heaters work well, I've used them for floating seed trays.

Hey...
I don’t have the connect version, I would have preferred that but I don’t think it was available when I got this.
So it has lasted me some time already, whereas a cheaper one off eBay failed me fairly quickly.
So for that it was worth paying the extra, although I got this at a good price

As for the calibration etc. It has been ok, alerts me when it needs to be done every month or so and then it may be slightly out.

I have left the probe for months and months on end in water too, this is still working.

I check ph & PPM daily & just use the display on my BlueLabs pens. Plus it never hurts to tie off a floating glass aquarium thermometer inside the reservoir, just a quick glance helps & it's cheap. As far as cooling, best method for me has been to keep my reservoir on a concrete slab in the basement. This keeps my temps in high 60's for all but the hottest days of summer. Even then as long as A/C is running & the room is human-range comfortable, reservoir temps stay around 70-72F max.
But that's me. No doubt keeping a cool reservoir is important, so whether frozen 2-liter bottles will do the job or if it takes a recirculating chiller, do whatever it takes to keep temps down.

My cement basement floor works great. Plus I use hydroguard at 2ml per gallon in case res temps hit over 72 they're protected in higher temps with hydroguard. Or if you don't want to use hydroguard you can go sterile with h202 or Dutch master zone or some use sodium hypoclorite which is bleach to run a sterile res. H202 is best 35 percent food grade and best diluted down to 3 percent with distilled water(but some don't dilute it, they just add it by the ml to there res. There's charts online to dilute it. But you have to add this every 4 days. H202 adds extra oxygen for your roots and will keep them healthy and safe in warmer temps too without a chiller. Or if your that worried about water temps go on Amazon and find amazon's choice for water chillers. Bingo

My bluelab meter measures ec or ppm in .500 or .700 and also measures PH and also measures water temp. All in one meter.

I use the blue lab combo meter ec/ppm, PH, temp. I calibrate it once a month so it remains very accurate. My probes are in the res full time. It is easy to check the status with just a touch of a button.
