Hello I'm in the high desert of California and just planted my first set of auto grows..Candy Kush, Lemon skunk and great white shark...Now, when we planted our first set we were under the impression that we had to add flowering soil to our fox farm grow medium..After the fact we researched that that method was incorrect...How will this effect the growth? Also, we live in a climate that gets pretty cold (slow as as 20 degees F) but we have a greenhouse..By the way we are doing this outdoors..when the babies get about four to six inches we will remove them from straight sunlight to greenhouse do to nosey neighbors...Any tips or advice that you can give us would be greatly appreciate it

Hey and Welcome!
Glad you stopped in. You will love growing autos! Regarding the flower nutrients. Autos are sensitive to nutrients, much more so than their photo cousins. Keep an eye on them and look for signs of burning. Other than that keep on keeping on. As for the outstide growing, I'll leave that to those who grow out of doors, I am an inside grower.
Peace and happy growing.

Good morning HDG and welcome to AF

For good growth autos need to reasonably warm. If your soil temperatures get much below 60 degrees F it will slow their growth. I have had autos take night temps as low as 26 F when they were about finished but to start out I would try to keep them above 75 F.

This past spring I tried growing in Wall-o-Water which are like a mini greenhouse for each plant and it worked well. I set them up a few weeks before putting the plants in them to warm the soil first.

When plants are actively growing in height you want to give them a high nitrogen fertilizer with a ratio like 30-10-10, once vertical growth slows start using something more like 5-20-10 to encourage flowering. I have seen reports that straight Fox Farms can be too hot for autos but if you just mixed some into your soil you should be ok. Good drainage is the key regardless of the soil, if yours contains a lot of sand you may be ok or add perlite.

How about starting a grow journal in new growers so we can follow along. Happy growing

Welcome to AFN HDG. This is a great place and you are going to love it. Will be following your grow/s as I am an outdoor grower. Keep smiling. :welcome:

Welcome to AFN.Have other plants in there along with your "real Plants lol" but night cold will bring out colors if you have any with color ..75 is great for lights on and 60 -65 for lights out..I think they can handle some night cold I saw pees growing in snow before lol Good Luck

HDG, good to have you on board. I hope you enjoy your time spent at AFN, together we can grow great meds.

enjoy, eP.

Hi HDG, I think that is going to be too cold for veg and early flowering; I think you will find growth to be extremely slow. Biggest issue will b soil temps, you could try putting dark colored rocks around them to help absorb heat from the sun. What are average daytime temps?
