Have got to love Amazon prime! I just got in my outdoor security light. I was intrigued when I saw that it said powered by Cree. Then the price 100? When I arrived home I immediately ran out and started tearing it apart. Not to impressed, 980ma driver and a Cree 2530 cob.
Probably from the same factory but the driver needed a little upgrade. 36v 1400ma should add a few watts.
So I got the new driver installed and really didn't consider a cob. Luckily I have a huge selection of 1212's that fit the new and old drivers forward voltage. I tore out the other cob and cheap holder for the 6500k clu048 1212 citizen cob upgrade.
Like a glove!! Went back together flawlessly!
Here is an installed shot on the outside of my shed.
I guess the point of this is having a little skill in multiple areas is always rewarding. I took an outdated brownish tinted cob and replaced it with one that probably doubled the lumens per watt in a very crisp blue/white light. Only cost an additional 15 bucks wooo hooo!
