Have got to love Amazon prime! I just got in my outdoor security light. I was intrigued when I saw that it said powered by Cree. Then the price 100? When I arrived home I immediately ran out and started tearing it apart. Not to impressed, 980ma driver and a Cree 2530 cob.

Probably from the same factory but the driver needed a little upgrade. 36v 1400ma should add a few watts.

So I got the new driver installed and really didn't consider a cob. Luckily I have a huge selection of 1212's that fit the new and old drivers forward voltage. I tore out the other cob and cheap holder for the 6500k clu048 1212 citizen cob upgrade.

Like a glove!! Went back together flawlessly!

Here is an installed shot on the outside of my shed.

I guess the point of this is having a little skill in multiple areas is always rewarding. I took an outdated brownish tinted cob and replaced it with one that probably doubled the lumens per watt in a very crisp blue/white light. Only cost an additional 15 bucks wooo hooo!

Very nice!
My addiction started about 10 minutes ago.
I just orderd my first cobs...

We'll I was going to start converting the 300 watt leds I have collecting dust, 4 of them, But I'm rethinking that decision. Thought about it today, I think I'd be best served by that $440 if I bought drivers, sinks and made a simple frame.

6 clu048 1212's
ideal holders
100k potentiometer
LPF11180-ZHE-B Bulk LED pin fin heat sink, ø111mm, H 80mm, Base 10mm, Zhaga mounting holes, Black anodized
HLG-320H-C1400B Bulk LED Driver (CC) 320W 1400mA Linear (114.3-228.6Vdc) 90-305Vac PFC PWM, Resistance, 0-10V Dimming IP67 Metal Enclosure
I'll shear and bend a simple frame with scrap aluminum.

$350 for 300 watts

How do I figure efficiency?

There are a few charts floating around. Not sure which is 100% accurate but I'd guess 45ish% efficiency. Anything under $2 a watt is great. I think you'll be excited to see the results.

eBay and amazon has junction boxes and glands.

Yes wagos inside these boxes are super clean. Even a blue box and cover plate from Home Depot would work. Amazon had great deals on wagos if you buy 50 pieces.
