Right after I got out my unit went to Yugoslavia. One of my very best budz had his life stolen there.
Big respect and many thanks for our vets. Unfortunately i made the decision to go to college instead of serving and there have been many times i have regretted it. My brother just got back from his second deployment to afghanistan and i saw him for the first time in a year yesterday and took him out fishin in the boat...absolutely beautiful day. He is staring to go through PTSD - he said this deployment was a lot worse than his first, they were in the shit a lot more. When he first got there on this deployment he wanted to go visit with his unit from the first deployment but found out they had all been killed about a week before he got in country...the entire unit. He would have been dead too if he had not transfered to another company. A few days later he had the privilage of finding the severed heads of two of the local police he had just been introduced to and that he was supposed to help train. All of that in his first two weeks back in country. That's fucked up. He said we're not hearing about a lot of the shit that's going on over there.
While i hate the politics that sent him there, i am fiercely proud of him and what he has done...as well as all the other vets and their service in times of war & peace, especially you Vietnam vets who didn't get the respect & honor u deserved when u came home. Luv u all. I'm thankful and have a deep respect for the vets from our allies. i think we sometimes forget the role our allies play and the sacrifices they have made also.
One a different note - He said the shit i grew here at home was better than any of the afghan weed he had over there so i took it as a big compliment.
Hardcore division man. My son just finished his airborne training there. Officer in the US Army. A dualy Canadian and American citizenship. I am wicked proud.
