Wienerwoods' Microscopy Adventure

Haha that's awesome dude! I've been waiting for too long...

I see you've got some nice shrooms going yourself! Gotta take a good look when I've got the time. Congrats!

Ah, l.c. I'll he making more of that soon.
Looking great w.w
Gllad to be following along.

Nice to see you here Roark!

Speaking of LC... I just made a 20cc syringe of LC as well as 6 BRF cakes I'm going to be using it on. Three of the jars have coffee grounds in the mix, the other three don't. It's said that coffee grounds speed up colonization. So it's a race!
I also made them pretty dry this time so they should all colonize faster just because of that.

The grains are doing pretty well, but they've started displaying some suspicious shit:

The colored spots rapidly increased in numbers last night but none of them have really grown any larger which I assume any contamination would have done by now. In fact one of the first spots to show up looks to be fading to white again. I haven't crossed out molds just yet but I'm pretty sure it's just bruising. I did gently shake the jar every now and then until I found out I shouldn't have.
Those small and isolated mycelium spots are also worrying me a bit but I guess there could simply be pinholes on the grain hulls or something, and the mycelium is just poking through from underneath.

bruised cylleum my friend and it will go back to white, lol don't shake the jars

Thanks for the reassurance! Somehow I just assumed from the start that grains should be broken up as they're colonizing, much like you agitate a liquid culture from time to time. What's really weird is that shaking them didn't really seem to slow things down!

nah it wouldn't slow anything down it just makes for weird shit to happen lol

So wiener, you ever get a big white thing on the top of your l.c after its a few months old? Does your l.c ever make it that long?

Cause you use it it real fast. Not cause of tam. Like have. Diggin myself deeper here. Goodnight.

Well, this is actually my first proper liquid culture. I've tried honey a couple of times but it absolutely sucks. This malt extract is pretty dark and it leaves sediment in the jar but it seems to work well other than that. I only recently noticed that there is actually one online vendor that imports Karo Light which I guess would be the best solution. But for now malt will do.
Anyway what I'm getting at is, I might as well get different anomalies in the LC after a couple of months but I wouldn't know since my experience is still quite limited.

I agree it might be a bit soon but there is already a great amount of mycelium in the jar and even in the syringe so I'm hopeful.
:pass:

Okay. I use karo and malt. 1tsp karo 1/4 tsp malt. In a half pint jar. They grew fast. Same amount I used in a quart jar before. I like the pints though.
