Wienerwoods' Microscopy Adventure

here is a good recipe but it makes a shit ton so you might want to scale it back some.

Measure out 8 cups of distilled water & set it on the stove to boil.

While the water is heating, dice up 1-2 large potatoes & add that to the water once it starts to boil.

Turn the heat down on the stove to med low and set the lid on your pot & cook the potatoes until they are done - maybe 15-20 minutes or so or until you can jab a fork into the potato easily.

When they are finished cooking, discard the potatoes or set them aside to eat later.

This potato water is very nutrient rich and is the base to this liquid culture recipe.

With the coffee filters, filter out 4 cups of potato water and discard the rest. You can use the fliter housing of your coffee maker for this step. Tip: you may have to squeeze the water by hand to get it to flow through the coffee filters or try one of those gold basket filters.
You may have to filter it a couple times to remove most of the particulate matter from the water.

Take the 4 cups of filtered potato water and add 12 cups of distilled water and mix in 10 tablespoons of light Karo syrup and mix the solution thoroughly.

the corn syrup is not needed but it does make the LC a little bit faster and stronger

hey WW you should try a potato water LC or a rice water LC they are super easy to make and crazy fast growth
That recipe sounds interesting. I ordered a Büchner filtration funnel with a flask so I can use suction while filtering stuff. Should lend itself well to a project like this.

If I make more LC I will make one with honey and one with potato water. Should be interesting to compare. Thanks for the info!

What's up WW? Been a while! Looks like things are going well for your mushroom experimentation.

I thought I'd squeeze in another update before the year is out.

I bought 100 grams of syrian rue seeds not long ago for use as a MAOI with mushrooms. I found a pretty cool tek for extracting the harmala alkaloids so I went ahead and did that. The result was just over a gram of relatively pure mix of freebase harmine and harmaline. Not a very good yield but seeing as it was my first time, I'm pretty happy. I'm going to be taking 0.2 grams of the extract in a gel cap and since it's freebase, probably 0.05g sublingually.

The mushroom booze on the right is made with 160 proof vodka, same as before, only this time I used 5.5 grams of cubes and finally invested in a coffee mill. It's being reduced now in almost boiling water. I'll start doing these in about 4 hours so hopefully it'll all fit in capsules by then.

The PF jar still hasn't colonized, but it isn't visibly contaminated yet so I'm probably giving it away since I don't really have time to fruit it.

Happy New Year everyone!

That's some crazy shit dude! You'll have to let us know how this one turns our for you! Have a good trip :)

Thanks! Less than an hour left before I'll start by taking the MAOI and this is how the mushroom extract looks right now, soon done:

I wonder how I'm going to get everything out of the decanter... I doubt they'll redissolve in a few milliliters of fresh vodka.

The trip went nicely. Strong nausea was present at onset and I vomited quite violently after about an hour of dosing. I'm guessing that was because of the freebase harmalas; someone said they'd be hard on the stomach. I went for a walk with a friend soon after the effects came on and everything seemed inexplicably grim and dark for some reason, probably because the intensity of the come up caught me by surprise. Once the effects started to mellow out I started having a blast, although I was still only half conscious. Fireworks had never looked as beautiful.

The trip lasted a whopping 6 hours and I thought it was over. Then I got sick again and to my surprise I felt a new rush of effects, only at this point my brain was already pretty tapped out and I had a constant urge to vomit. After an hour or two I finally got whatever made me feel sick out and immediately started feeling amazing. This brought ayahuasca to mind because I really felt cleansed and at peace. Minor visuals were still present after about 10 hours (warping surfaces and blending of details mostly) when I finally fell asleep.

I have to say that I'm genuinely surprised at how different the trip was overall. The harmalas definitely did their job, although 0.25g must've been a bit excessive. In the end the trip kept spiraling out of control and I really had to focus so it wouldn't turn bad. Not a very recreational experience, obviously, but really worth it.

Anyone up for some more 'shrooms? That's right - I'm back and at it again! My B+ samples are no more, so this time we're growing the Argentina variety of P. cubensis.

Since my last glove box was a bit small and I also managed to crack it while making it, I decided to make a new one. I came up with something pretty cool. It's basically just two holes fitted with pieces of 4" flexible duct fitted with rubber gloves fitted with another set of rubber gloves. It works really well.

With the glove box I could start out by making spore syringes.

The spore syringes were then used to inoculate a liquid culture, as well as a jar of oat grain to be used as spawn. It took a few days but I'm finally seeing some progress.

That's a close-up of the LC. I didn't have a marble at hand so I figured a chrome-plated nut would do. As you can see there are already a few clumps that don't seem to want to break up. And no, that sediment isn't caused by contamination. Malt extract seems to do that when it's pressure cooked. I had the option to filter it out and sterilize again, but I figured the stuff must be full of nutrients. The solution became really dark anyway, so I wouldn't really have been much better off.

And that's the grain. I shook it a bit right after inoculation so there are little white spots everywhere. There's all kinds of stuff in there besides grain. There even seems to be a dead beetle of some sort on the bottom:

I also made some self-healing lids with RTV silicone and two layers of micropore tape. They've proved very worthwhile.

And that's pretty much it so far. Once the grain spawn is ready, I'll use it to inoculate another jar as well as some horse manure substrate.

Welcome back WW! Dude this literately may seem a little creepy but you have been in my thoughts the last few weeks bro. I knew you were gonna be on break for a little bit but I was hoping to see you pop back up soon, and here you are! Glad to see you back and on fire already!
