I had the same gnat issues with
OF soil. Before I even got my seeds i was all set up and waiting. Only to find a tent filled with them.
Removed all pots and soil, cleaned tent again. Took a very large tarp and poured out all the soil. Spread it out in the garage on a cold night. Very thin spread. Old lady neighbor told me to do that. Apparently the gnats need a few inches of soil but i spread it very thin on the tarp. Next day, no gnats. Tested by refilling a single pot, back in tent and waited a day, no gnats.
