Hello everyone

Another noob enters the fold.

Am just an auld hippy and a Geordie exile living in a distant land, even further away than Manchester!!

Didn't think I was a noob until I discovered Autos, have dabbled in the past, without much success or knowledge to be honest, even so far as NFT, growing a tree, getting too excited and cutting her down far too soon...numpty!!

I must congratulate everyone here for putting together an amazing site, fantastic knowledge base and truly incredible support with a willing, helpful and friendly community!!

So here I am, first Auto grow, DP Automazar, first LED grow, GN ms0006 (which is a bit sexy!!), first airpot grow and the first time I've ever even thought about ph or environment.

Being a noob, I thought I'd done all my homework, built my cab, 60x90x150, an attic grow. Fitted a carbon filter and fan (which is too small), passive intake with a circulating fan and a temp and humidity meter. I'm in a 10l airpot with a soil called Celtic Gold with 25% perlite and a couple of tablespoons of dolomite lime. 18/6 light schedule and at 20 days the light is on full power at about 2' above the plant top.

Though my girl is growing quite well, I have a major ph issue, first watering was at 6.5 and the run off was 7.2, second watering went in at 6.2, the run off was 7.2, third watering went in at 5.8 and the run off was 7.1. I flushed last night with 30l of plain water ph'ed to 6.3, tested the last of the run off...7.2....Confuggled!!

The plant has fairly bad chlorosis on all leaves..very bad.. and narcosis on the lower leaves, new growth is green but becomes infected within a couple of days. I'm using Biobizz nutes, so far only root juice and I gave 2ml of grow on the last watering plus 1ml calmag, I've also foliar fed with epsom salts, 2tsp per litre. My tap water is around 8.0 and I'm using cider vinegar as ph down.

I presume (which can be dangerous) I have a nute lock out but until I can find a way to lower the ph I'm fighting a losing battle and as this was gonna be my Xmas toke, I'm scared...very scared.

I'm gonna post a couple of pics below. Any thoughts, input, advice would be greatly appreciated.

May all your buds be big, fat and sticky

well bob we welcome you here. post your PH issue in the live help tread and you will get the help you need. I also use white distilled vinegar and garden lime to stable out the ph in the soil. as it dries it will go higher so I water with 5.8 6.0 feed water .

Hey Elvis, thanks for the welcome.

I'll get onto the live help and see if anyone has any ideas. In the mean time I'll take your advice and keep the feed low.

Cheers mate

Hey Bob, welcome.
As a relative noob myself I'll leave it to the experts to solve your problems as they have mine. I just want to say that it looks like you have a sweet setup. I'll bet you end up with some good Christmas Bud after all.

Hiya bob!! You have a great setup and a sick wee one! We will get you sorted. How much vinegar per gallon are you giving them?

Hey Feenix, thanks for the welcome man :)
This noob thing is hard work lol...really enjoying the learning curve though...a few tweaks here and there and we may just have a merry christmas!!

Nice to meet you mate

Bob

Hi Briman, thanks for stopping by :)

Yep, my baby isn't in the best of form at the minute..she looks shocking in the pics but that was a day after a flush.

I use the vinegar as little as possible, drop by drop til I get the ph I want. I haven't measured it but I'd guesstimate 0.5-1ml per litre. Don't have much choice as my tap water comes in at 8 and I really don't want to use the chem ph down with Biobizz.

Thanks again for popping in

Bob

Welcome to AFN Bobwobbly. I think your issue may be from the added limestone. It is going to keep the pH up until it is depleted. I don't think your plant looks that bad. You could try setting the pH of your water a little lower going in. I you have a Myco supplement like Great White or the like you might add it to your next watering as well asit ca help the roots absorb nutes over a wider pH rang. You might also try an iron supplement with your high pH.

Have you started a journal in New Growers yet?

Hey Oldster, thanks for the welcome, I'm really delighted to be here, great site with an amazing bunch of folks!!

I think you've hit the nail on the head with the lime...that damn learning curve again...but with the help of the good people of AFN, hopefully we'll be able to pull the little lady through.

Thanks for the heads up on the Myco supplement, I'll definitely look into that and I have given her an Iron supplement in a foliar feed.

I don't have a grow journal running atm but I do have a thread running in the Infirmary which I'm going to keep updated with actions and results, maybe be of some help to someone in the future. Been getting some great advice off the guys and after chatting to Muddy, I'm gonna try to, gently...very gently bring the ph down with some aluminium sulphate.

Thanks for dropping by Oldster, it means so much for us noobs to have the support of so many good folks!!

Bob
