Grow Mediums Yoda's 1st try at DWC with KVS

After seeing all these impressive grows with DWC, I decided I wanted to see what all the fuss was and how I would fair with it. The plan is a 3gal cooler probably room for bout two gals for res. using the cooler top as the lid to help with insulation and to keep temps in range. In the mean time my KvS popped but decided it could poke thru the root riot cube so she decided to turn back down.... I saved her by cracking open the cube and popping her out myself. That was this am, she looks like she's doing well I have her currently in a spidey movie cup until her roots come through the net pot... I have the water level right so it's just barely bubbling water on the rocks where the cube is I want to have search for that water!

I'm sub'd brother yoda! Im thinking i might do my virgin auto grow with KVS & Dr feelgood, im not sure if should post my journal, in case i go down in flames i don't want to be bad advertisement for stitch gear.
I should prolly let you auto pro show how its done right.
What kind of nutes you using, and what lighting?
This is cool i will be a couple weeks behind you with mine.

My poor baby has had such a ROUGH start all do to noob mistakes, saturated too much water for first few days....



That is what she looked like after a couple of days under the t5 with no water... I than had to much of the cube exposed, so today I put cube (which has roots shooting from it on the bottom of the net pot and covered with hydroton.

Will top water until I see roots coming out of the net pot... Almost tempted to pop another one and start over, as first one started off in a soaked root riot cube with just plain distilled water (was suggested I try to soak it for a few in some distilled h20 with a bit of root excellurator and super thrive) also was told only need to put seedling down 2 or 3mm... I had mine pushed half way down the cube....
Start another one? Yay or nay?
Edit: bleh! I don't want my first attempt at DWC to start off on the wrong foot... I'm sure what ever she went through this week it's going to stunt her....
Decided to pop another one in some distilled watered.... Put the foam cup on top of the cable box with a small air stone (want to see if it mAkes any difference?) will give this a shot and see if she fairs any better and choose which one looks better, if second starts with less trouble I'll keep her...

Hey yoda, glad to see things up and running, this DWC malarky is a hassle! You know it will be worth it in the end though : i've managed to stunt my first attempt at dwc as well, but decided to see her through the best I can. So I did end up popping another one don't want my first attempt to start off the way that one did.... I was putting the seeds to far down the cube, they really just need to be popped in there and nothing more, no pushing down required like I was doing before... Which could explain why I was having such bad luck with the cubes....

It's been a while, here is attempt number 2, roots just started coming out of net pot..., have in a 1lt cup for now with an air stone waiting to roots gets bigger before putting in 2gal DWC cooler

Karma to ya Yoda! I couldn't make dwc work for me. I blew it on my first go, and might not look back. Definately an art form!! I'm a soil guy, and stickin to what I know. Hope you can make it work for ya!!

@briman it's MOST DEF a learning curve going on here... Thinking it will get a bit easier once the roots are large enough to go into the larger cooler..... This second seedling though is doing much better than the first. Glad I scrapped that one.... Thanks for stopping by!
