1st grow using space bucket, 2nd grow all in all

Hi guys,

So last summer I grew 2 autos on my windowsill and had pretty good results considering the summer weather wasn't as I hoped (typical British weather) however this year i have made a space bucket and will be germinating a seed soon, ive opted for blue cheese from Royal Queen Seeds. The reason I've opted for a space bucket is because I am very limited for space where I live and I am only growing for my own personal use, I vape my bud and only vape of a night time so aren't interested in copious amounts of weed.
The parts I have used for my space bucket are as follows..

  • 5x 20litre buckets
  • 2x 120mm AC Infinity s3 fans
  • 300w led mrhua grow light
  • 5630 SMD warm white led Strip lights (for side lighting during flower)
  • AC Infinity s4 4inch extractor fan
  • AC Infinity 4inch carbon filter
  • Duct tape
  • Diamond mylar (not really needed for white buckets)
  • Glue gun
To begin with I opened up my LED light and flipped the fan so as opposed to blowing downwards into the bucket it blows the air out the top, I then attached the light to the underside of the lid and cut holes for the switches, fan etc. I then placed one of my 120mm fans ontop of this to add as extra suction, I also added a 4inch flange ontop of my 120mm fan so that I can connect ducting, extractor fan and filter later on in the grow during flower. I installed my other 120mm fan into the bottom bucket where my plant pot will be situated i have the option of not running the fan and using it as a passive air intake or running it on either of the 3 speeds available to control temp and humidity if needed. I've sealed all gaps with a glue gun and am in the process of wrapping the rest of the outside with duct tape to avoid light leaking in or out of the bucket. The bottom bucket I have also lined with mylar, although I could have just left it white, it would have been easier to do this aswell but hey ho. I then cut my other 4 buckets down to use as spacers in order to be able to extend or reduce the light hight as needed throughout my grow. I have also drilled holes in the bottom bucket for any run off and used the bottom of a bucket i used as a spacer to make a drip tray out of. I will be adding a hygrometer at some point so that I can keep track on the temp and humidity levels within the grow bucket. I will also use a mid section of a cut down bucket to install my LED strips to allow me to slide inside the buckets for my required hight during flower to ensure the lower canopy is receiving some sort of light. Please let me know what you think, any tips/tricks or questions etc will be very much welcomed and appreciated.

Think I'm gonna do that from now on too usually put them in smaller ones so I don't over water but think I can gauge it properly now
I plant in final container. I water the whole pot even on a seed or seedling til run off. Then let it dry out til it's easy to lift then water whole pot again. Hard to overwater like this. Just gotta lift pots and water when needed. Best of luck!

Nice one mate, just ordered some more buckets so I can create some more spacers, I may not need them but would rather have them on standby just incase I do

1st day after transplanting, she seems to have responded well, 2nd set of leaves still growing nicely, medium felt abit dry this morning after only giving a light misting yesterday so just gave her around 250ml of water around the outside and a misting closer to her, just cautious of overwatering with such a small plant in a big pot but just going to water and monitor and see how she responds

Good luck bro, so far so good ay? Finally finished my tote, got one Skywalker Kush in it now, another that has just popped it's head up and to Fat Monkey's getting ready now as I build a second tote. Hopefully my luck is as good as yours

I was off to a rocky start germinating but I was trying to find a method that was more suitable for me so I'll take that L as a lesson instead of a loss lol hopefully you will have a successful grow pal I will head over to your profile now and take a look what you got going on. Thanks for dropping in buddy

1 week old today just gave her a light watering with 0.5ml of fish mix, alg-a-mic, root juice and bio silicone, ive noticed since yesterday the newest leaves are curling over at the tips and they are almost folded back on themselves in a sort of reverse canoe shape, is there any reason for this or just something that happens with new growth? I still have a clear plastic cup over her for humidity also and temps ets are all ok

Something is definitely not 100% here, new growth has purple to it which fades as it grows, tried to feel the texture of the leaves gently and they just tear so easily how ever that have started to straighten out more

Seems the hard part for new growers it to leave them be and let them grow :smoking:

I know my head was in the tent all the time on those first grows

They teach patience

Relax and enjoy :d5:

You're absolutely right mate I can't disagree with you atall on that comment lol. I'll try and leave her be now just wanted to get to the bottom of weva it's an under/overwater issue or just a standard thing that happens.

The purple on the new growth, long as it grows out of it I don't see a problem there

Day 10, yesterday I ran around 800ml of water through her soil as I had forgotten to presoak it before transplanting, I also made 3 more spacers for the bucket to move the light away from her abit more and gave her a spray of plant magic evolution when the light went off for its 6 hour period and today she seems to have perked right back up, side branches already starting to form aswell

Day 17, she's growing well, staying short so far with not much spacing between nodes but new shoots of growth of side branches off every node im expecting a stretch soon but I'm happy for her to stay low for aslomg as possible. She had a feed on Monday mixed into a litre of water was hoping to water again either 2moz or Friday but the soil is still pretty moist which is a pain as I want to feed, water, feed with one feed and one watering each week so may have to reduce the amount of water as watering untill runoff just means the soil taking a while to dry out whilst she is still only small

1st day into week 4, she's gone into her prefilled bang on time a few pistils visible aswell she's still short and Bush so just tucking her fan leaves out of the way for the time being untill she gives abit of stretch. Due a watering tomoz, just plain water and some bio silicon as trying to get a feed, feed, water pattern just need that soil drying up quicker, think I may add more perlite into the mix next run maybe a 35-40% but overall so far so good.

1st day of week 5 today, I realised I had gave her far to much cal mag yesterday as I am only meant to be feeding in her 0.3/0.5ml per litre as a preventative but I accidentally upped her dose each week by 0.5ml along with her other nutes then realised what I had done so yesterday I put her in the bath and ran around 24litres of plain water through her, left her for 15mins then watered with 1 litre of water with half dose of nutes but no cal mag then left her on a rack for another 30mins for run off to clear away then sat her on a towl for another 30mins to wick away any excess water. She seems to have handled it well, I noticed some yellowing on the leaf tips so was thinking maybe a nute lock out due to the excess calcium so hoping the flush has sorted her out. I've been defoliating but only fan leaves or suckers at the bottom of the plant, I have been tucking fan leaves away closer to the top of the plant

Coming into week 6 tomorrow. So after the flush last week things weren't looking to great and I didn't have a clue what was going on, top growth was yellowing and wilting and the plant just looked lifeless however the crappy buds at the bottom didn't seem to bad and look healthy in colour. I thought maybe a deficiency due to lockout caused by the over feeding of the calmag but after speaking to @damien50 his thoughts were that it was due to low temps, as I was sitting at around 18 degrees celsius, so I grabbed the sleeve insert I made at the beginning with my 5630 smd leds and installed them into the bucket. Temps have risen and the plant has perked right up, she no longer wilts not even before lights off when the wilting seemed more prominent. She is still abit yellow in colour but I'm aware that her green colour may not come back or come back completely but she looks alot healthier. I also bought a heat mat that I have st my bucket on top of to try and keep my soil nice and warm and hopefully get it drying out faster as to avoid having humidity issues. All in all it seems to be going alot more better. If done some light trimming ever other day or so to get rid of some of the lower growth to help with air circulation. These pics were before I took a few more leaves from the bottom.
