Growpito Demo Grow

GrowpitoFinalLogo012917_OL+(1).jpg
Hello AFN - This is @Growpito_Aleks - Presenting you with a demonstration grow.

For the next few months follow me while I flower out some clones and mothers.

I will be growing 16 cuts of Mendo Breath by Gage Green Genetics, 1 mother of a Dinafem Blue Cheese, and 3 Bruce Banger mothers.

These ladies will be going straight to 11/13 on our 3x3 tray. I've purposely prevented complete uniformity in clones while planting 4 mothers in the same pot.

Head to the next page to see these ladies post transplant.

Day 1 - Transplant

EC of 1.3 in
5.6 pH
11/13 Light Schedule
84f w/ 5° leaf temp offset
40% RH
Prescription Blend Nutrients

This is 2 hours post transplant. I planted two Mendo Breath per pot in 8 pots. The right front pot consist of the mother plants. I've set the schedule to 11/13 to encourage flowering.
Lumii_20200221_150616019_compress91.jpg

At transplant I fertigated each plant at the base slowly with 20oz of 1.3EC as I always run some extra Calmag with these lights. My starting water EC was .2

I allowed these clones and mothers to remain in the tent for a day prior to acclimate to the stronger lighting. After transplant every lady received a foliar of Growpito Beneficials.
Lumii_20200221_150829333_compress22.jpg

For roughly 5 days I will not be watering while roots establish themselves. I've begun this grow with 55 gallons of water and used around 3 gallons for the transplant.

Day 5 - Flood

EC of 1.3 in and 1.2 out
5.6 pH in and 5.8 out
11/13 Light Schedule
84f w/ 2° leaf temp offset
55% RH
Prescription Blend Nutrients

Today was the first flood to 25%. The night prior, near lights out, a foliar of Prescription Blend Kelpful was applied.

Some of the mother plants were tied back so prevent leaves overlapping. Otherwise no issues. I'll top reservoir off before the next flood and see how they are doing.

5.6 pH in and 6.0 out
11/13 Light Schedule
82f w/ 2° leaf temp offset
48% RH

My tap water source has changed so the EC has been a bit different at .45 -.5 so the numbers are different.

Everything looks good and pre flowers are developing.

They were flooded yesterday.

11/13 Light Schedule
84f w/ 3° leaf temp offset
57% RH

Growth is nice and steady with some stretching happening. The tallest Mendo Breath are hitting 2ft and the mother plants are progressing quickly.

These have not been pruned or particularly trained in any way. Everything is looking good and the tent is filling up pretty well.

The mothers were transplanted too closely so they were tied away from each.

Roots are coming out the bottom of the pots on all of them.

11/13 Light Schedule
81f w/ 1° leaf temp offset
53% RH

Stretching looks to be almost over with the mother plants fully focused on flowering. There's some smell already.

Amazed how they filled the 4x4 space. The Mendo Breath are branchy with few leaves while the mothers are dense and short.

These are all reportedly 10 week strains but I believe the mothers may finish a bit sooner.

More or less had a full pH swing so I'll be adjusting the pH back to 5.5 come next flood.

Plants have really branched out and flowering is progressing. Some light aroma has begun on the Bruce and Blue Cheese. 2 inch internodes on the Mendo Breath and less on the mothers.

No deficiencies have been observed and stretching has ended. The larger clones reached 30" while the mothers have remained short.

Finally working our way into week 4. The last foliar was day 21 and some light pruning was done at the base of some of the clones.

No deficiencies but there have been some leaves here and there very low in the canopy that abscised otherwise no issues. Pots were moved around with the mothers and shorter cuttings to the right.

Excited to see how the Mendo Breath develop. Light aromas have begun and the mothers are developing frost. The red stems on the Mendo and they are quite beautiful complimenting the green of their fan leaves.

Enough chatter from me. Here are some photos.

Still going strong. Around three or so Mendo Breath clones look to have had a minor Ca issue while some in the left corner are getting dark stripes on their leaves otherwise small bit of die off below the canopy.

A few more weeks to go though. Maybe about 3-4.

Never mentioned this but for anyone paying attention to the humidity something kind of cool happens. On a flood day RH will rise to 55-60% but as and sometimes in the next irrigation cycle, humidity drops to the low 40's every time.

Looks like some Cal issues but I could be wrong. Also some new colors in the leaves of the Mendo Breath slowly popping up.

I've brought the EC down to a 1.0 and a 5.5ph just to be safe and it was coming anyway. Hopefully there will be less issues.

Plants are all leaning over, colors are coming out with the Mendo showing hues of purple and the blue cheesing developing some orange

Can't really describe the smell yet but has been getting stronger. The Cal deficiency was a concern but everything has been developing steadily so I don't see the need to add CalMag.

Be safe everyone

So it's been awhile but things are moving slower at this point.

I've lessened the watering to every 4 days as the pots were heavy at day 3 last week. Harvest is getting closer as humidity has dropped to low 40s even after a flood.

Not sure how close the Cheese and Banger are but all Mendo are fading though trichomes aren't amber yet.

The End

Plants finished at 64 with the Mendo leaves mostly turning. One of the Bruce Banger started turning yellow but the entire mother pot had amber trichomes.

They've been left in the tent to dry out on the vine and one of Mendo was harvested for cobs. Once they are dry I'll post weight.

I am a representative with Growpito. We manufacture a stonewool substrate that is completely inert and perpetually reusable with a mix of bio foam that supports microbiology at the rhizosphere.

Our mission is to reduce water and fertilizer usage in hydroponics while making it simpler to grow. With Growpito you only fertigate every 3 days to 25-30% of the pots volume.

Less water, less nutrients, more green. Growpito is growing with purpose.

Comments

What is your starting water EC or is 1.3 EC just the nutrient additions? How often is the reservoir changed?

My starting EC is 1.3 - my tap is .2 with another .2 of calmag and .9 from prescription blends nutrients.

I do not change the reservoir, I keep it under 75f in the summer to prevent anaerobic bacteria, and I top it off based on water amount and EC at the time. I may go three weeks, 7 fertigations, but still be at 1.2-1.3. if the EC changes too much, especially with reduced water levels I refill it 1/2 strength. No reservoirs changes or waste water.

I'm running a 55 gallon whereas with our instructions I'd be running a 25 gallon reservoir. It's easier to maintain the larger reservoir imo

IMPO your nutrients will get out of balance running hydro like that. What happens is the plants will use the nutrients that they want and leave the others behind. You are replacing them in balance but the nutrients that remain just get stronger and stronger until you have a lock out situation. This is the reason DWC needs to be changed weekly. Now it is true that with the large volume you will have a better buffering capacity but that will only work for so long?

How much does it cost to mix up the 55 gallons? Will you be changing the formula as the plants mature?

Swings in pH or EC are usually indicators for me that the reservoir needs adjustment. Not really the intention to let the reservoir hit half capacity but I do continually adjust the pH and EC just less often with a larger capacity.

I have not ran this particular nutrient in the 55 gal before but I have ran Mega Crop, I still have a lot. I've had to run it lighter because of the issues you spoke of and taper it mid to late flower. I've used Botanicare Pure Blend Pro with Liquid Karma and that has worked quite well for me and coalminer.

I will be following PBN's instructions with this especially as I have never flowered these out.

I am not sure you are following my thinking. Lets say you start with N-P-K at 10-10-10 EC 1.3 after the first week the plants have used 4-2-1 leaving 6-8-9 EC1.0 so you add 10-10-10 to get the EC back to 1.3 You have no way of knowing what nutrients the plants have used so you just add them back in balance but now your ratios are 6-8-9 and again the plants consume 4-2-1. now you are left with 2-6-8 when you add 10-10-10 again you remain at 2-6-8 and your nutrients are out of balance. If you do not start with a fresh reservoir you have no idea what is in there. Sure the EC is 1.3 but what is the make-up of that 1.3?

You're speaking of nutrient antagonism correct? I'm following however I've yet to experience these issues. I believe by providing low nutrient strength these become non issue especially in a larger reservoir equilibrium is more easily maintained. However nutrient uptake depends on many factors beyond the reservoir - environmental variables are at play as well that will have an impact.

I think it's a valid question that many have researched but commercial SOPs for produce reflect changing the reservoir every so often just in case. Some studies have shown injection of NPK to maintain balance but usually there is no improvement or detriment to plant biomass.

This looks like it’s going be a good show! @Growpito_Aleks thanks for including our nutrients in your grow, I like how your explaining how your system is setup and how it run. Definitely following along for this!

Much appreciated. The nutrients are simple and effective to use just like our Sim mix. I'm not seeing CaMg issues thankfully as I believe the 40%> humidity and allowing the pH to swing between 5.5 and 6.5 is allowing proper transport.

Nice grow, they're looking great there.
I was having the same concern as @Mañ'O'Green about topping up rather than starting fresh.
Sure, if you let the old res get really low before you top up, less of a problem, but still...
They look good for now, though.
All the best for the second half of the flowering game!

With this current grow I've been topping up roughly every other week. I have not dumped the res once this entire grow and I've maintained the EC fairly low throughout. The pH has been allowed to drift between 5.5 - 6.2 with the only real difference behind the higher dosing of Big Data.

We've figured it's easier to show rather than tell lol. Appreciate the kind words and I hope you enjoy the grow.

I never change my 15 gallon, multiple plant reservoirs in DWC unless there's a problem. I do empty out and replace 1/2 gallon daily for testing, and add clorox daily.

Those worries about elements getting out of whack with each other just don't happen, because the plants stay healthy.
I have noticed no difference between doing the usual res changes, and never changing.
A lot of fertilizer and water runs thru the system, and plants have some ability to pick and choose what to eat.
Solid media growers and autopot users don't change out their grow-media either mid-grow.

Life is so much simpler in hydro not changing the reservoir.
