Yooo.. Your BW was the reason I ordered the strain. Your journals were the 1st I found on AFN so I bit your style pretty hard for awhile! Hahaaa! And great question! I wish I had a great answer, but I dooonnnttt!! I guess we can call it trial and error (Kanye Shrug).. I've been going back and forth for about a month on whether or not to flush at all.. So when the time came, I was still undecided and kind of rode the middle ground I guess. I REALLY want to have a focused dialog on the subject because I honestly dont KNOW what I'm doing yet.. Lol.. I'll try to explain my thinking behind it in a nutshell..
(Hypothetical scenario)
Sooo.. In full flower lets say normal feeds are in the 1100ppm range and so is the run off.. I do a "10 day" flush with just water.. Flushing gets rid of all stuff stored in the soil so regular flush would flush out all the extra nutes, built up salts ect.. Then its straight water till harvest. To me that didnt make sense.. I thought to myself why flush out all the good stuff you worked so hard to put in there..
The flip side would be no flush at all.. Continuing full feeds up to harvest.. That didnt make much sense to me either. Lol.. In my mind there has to be a way that affects taste or end product..
So I kind of played middle ground. I wasn't comfortable doing a full flush and wasn't comfortable doing full feeds till harvest. What I would really like to know is what impact the ppms of run off actually has.
For instance. Lets say feeds are 800 ppm.. And so is the run off.. This doesnt tell us how or how much the plant is feeding. The runoff ppm will stay about the same as the feed. Why am I even looking at this number? I'm not sure how or when it correlates.
But after playing around in my head lately, what actually makes sense to me today (probably not tomorrow though) is to keep feeds to around 800 ppms max going in and feed with water only or Herculean Harvest ect for the last 10 days.. But not flush.. And no watching ppms of run off.. Feeding has beem my Lex Luther.. Thats part of the reason I went to organic soil and super soil amendments. Lol..
I'll be honest, I don't even have a meter for ppm's.
I have tried finishing a few different ways. What I've liked the most is something like this, reducing the feed by 1/2, 2 weeks from chop. Then 1/4 for the last week, maybe straight water for 1 or 2 of the last feeds. I think a flush of 3x the volume is doing more harm than good, shocking your roots. Giving just water till a little leeches (15-20%) is a lot less stressful, allowing the plant to uptake what's left in the medium, rather than a drastic change towars starvation. I have found zero evidence of any negative effect, feeding til the end, other than using more nutrients/ $. A good cure and my smoke is smooth and ashes are white. If you want bigger yields, don't stress and starve, right at max swell.
I'm still very much learning myself so take it for what it's worth.
