New Grower 1st Grow..Here We Go!

Wow, this thread is a treasure trove of great information.

And make sure you check your cross bar clips to see if they are metal or plastic. Accidentally snapped some plastic clips while mounting some hardware before (and maybe I was trying to monkey-bar swing on the cross bar, who knows?!) I found it to be really reassuring to take some bungee cords (the stretchy kind with hooks on the end) and stretch them across the frame bars at the top of your tent. I do this on all my tents; it adds a lot of strength to the frame and I trust the tensile strength of several bungee cords a lot more than I do the seemingly thing metal rods that came with my tents. Just a tip if you want to try it out yourself!

Great tip about using the bungee cords. I have never been comfortable with the rickety nature of tents, so I solved the problem by mounting a piece of wire shelving in the top of mine. It gives me the ability to hang anything exactly where I want it, and it allows me to put stuff on top of the tent for storage. Here's my original plan showing what I did:

Alright well I thought I had it all together but turns out diameter is larger on the sides of the hood than my ducting I have..the ducting fits perfect on the 4'' fan but the sides of the hood are def. bigger..humm any way to make this work..I am thinking i can just get bigger ducting to fit sides of hood then just make sure its super secure around the fan ?!?!
I am super broke, so I wont be able to afford even ducting til Friday..I just added a bit more fresh soil and watered them well.

If I am not really having any run off in the trays does that mean I should be watering more?

Plants are looking fine! As for the ducting, if you go to the hardware store you'll find numerous reducers/increasers. They just cost a few dollars and will allow you to move up or down such as connecting a 4" to a 6". Just measure your different sized connections so you know which ones to buy.

I always water until runoff to make sure the soil is fully moist and to check the pH of the soil. If you don't get runoff and the soil in the bottom of your pot gets dried out, you'll limit the root growth and size of your plant. :Sharing One:

Haha Treasure Trove for sure! I would have no clue what the hell I am doing if it wasn't everyone's great knowledge on here!! I am definitely just putting the filter on the tent floor since I have the space.. I was able to get some cash to get get larger ducting and a reducer.. Hoping to get this set up tonight! Ill definitely post a pic to show you all and make sure it looks legit..

Good to know about run off..I haven't wanted to over water but looks like I need to be watering a bit more if anything.

Hello All! OKay so I feel like there might be a major problem going on..Well all 4 are getting bigger by the day (more leaves anyway) except one who looks to have not done anything for days. The second set of leaves came out and seem a decent length but then she just like stopped? Weird or what?!? If anyone of them are getting more light than others it'd be her b/c shes directly in the middle

Temps got pretty high the past 2 days lows 90's but that did not look to effect any of the leaves..They sometimes look a little yellowish especially towards the middle of the plant and especially after they've been in the dark. I've just had the light on continuously the past few days..Temps low today ( weather sucks! ) .humidity is low as hell still as well..

Sadly I was not checking the Ph of water at first but the past 2 waters I have.. low to middle 6's....I plan on starting nutes tomorrow or next day and I am hoping that will bring more life to them all.. I am getting close to 3 weeks in..

Just wondering about the one that's not doing anything?

Also who decides the names under our user names? Mines not discrete or anything lol Just had to comment on that

Heady,

EDIT*

Apparently I can't read lol. So 3 weeks in and starting nutes tomorrow? That sounds good; usually after about 2 weeks you can start giving nutes; be sure to start them off at 1/4 to 1/2 dose on the first few feedings; auto's can be nute-strength fickle and it's better to start off weaker and work your way up then it is to find out the hard way that your plant doesn't like the full strength dose of fert and it tells you that by burning itself (not that I have any personal experience with that *cough cough*)

Also, you ever get that extraction fan hooked up?

As for the name that appears under your username, that's called the user title. There are preset user titles for all members; I believe it changes either with the number of posts or based on reputation (will have to check on that one.) When you reach a certain level, there is an option to change the user title yourself.

Heyy Son.. Okay so I finally got fan set up...pics below

This would be Day 18

As you can see they are all growing at different speeds..The one in the back left, I believe is showing pistols...That girl in the middle tho just does not seem to be doing much..

I am purchasing nutes tomorrow and will be starting that...Also anyone got opinions on the co2 packs that are out? Wondering if i should invest in those and/or humidifier??? How much does humidity really play in the whole scheme of things?

That ducting is a real pain in the ass lol im assuming the heat is totally fine on the ducting??

The ducting looks great - nice job! I have not used the co2 packs myself, but I've read some reviews where people did some testing and found they did not raise the ppm enough to be very effective. But admittedly I have not dug too deeply into any research so maybe someone else has some experience with them. Humidity is important if you are trying to create the best possible environment. The same humidity that keeps your plants from drying up when they are babies can cause mold in the buds when they are flowering. It's not an exact science, but around 50-60 in veg and no more than 50 in flower. That being said, people do grow good plants in the desert with low humidity. Having low humidity that needs to be raised is easier to deal with than having high humidity that needs to be lowered. But if the plants are dong OK, I wouldn't kill yourself worrying about it.

Thanks Andy! I definitely don't see myself ever having to deal with high humidity this go round..it is just extremely low, so that has me nervous..its at 20 at the moment.. I just have tried all the little things to help raise and nothings worked so I don't even really know if adding a humidifier will make that much of difference.

Really excited to get these nutes going tomorrow :kitty:

I am going to be purchasing nutes today..Anyone got any advice on what to get?

My soil is a combo of FFHP,FFOF, and Coco..

If I got this right, I am seeing where for the rest of vegetative I need some with a high Nitrogen content and then also some phosphorus and potassium. Then with flowering, I will want high phosphorus and potassium with less Nitrogen...Does that seem about right?!?

I guess there can be certain nutes with soils you go with and I have not looked into that yet. Was just using above info to get an idea then when I get to the shop, I look into what the soil brands suggest..

Also is it cool to just continue to use those dunks (soaked in water/sprinkled on top) throughout the entire grow? I am just wanting to do that to play it safe , if it will not effect the girls.

Yahhh for Friday! "Dancing Psiren"

Lady, there are a ton of nutes out there and they will all do the job to one extent or another. The Fox Farms trio is kind of the classic starter nutes for new growers and it will last you quite some time. I grow organic with the General Organics box set and that's pretty easy to use as well. Just remember you don't need 20 different additives no matter what the shop guy says. A basic veg nute with higher N and a bloom nute with higher P is all you need to start, and you can go onwards and upwards from there. Even orchid or tomato food will work fine if you are really short on cash. Don't be concerned about needing to match soil brand with nute brand, either.

The dunks won't hurt anything if you keep running them to harvest. The bacteria will just hang out there waiting for some bug larvae to eat.

AHHH I dont know why this is happening but its freaking me out...sooo there is like this blue coating on the underneath of my hood and I just realized that it has been coming off and sticking/burning to the clear part thats surrounding the light..WHY? I feel like this hood is crap...IS that blue stuff necessary on the hood...I have no clue what to do..Is this dangerous?? Please help me..."High Team Help Me"
