Mephisto Genetics 1st Time Grower, Mephisto Sour Crack, Mephisto Fantasmo Express, & Mephisto Crackberry Photo

Another quick update. I am now a helmet head master surgeon, haha. I've had a Crackberry seed planted in a cup for a few days, and I became worried that what happened to my 1st two casualties was occurring with it. So I removed a thin layer of coco to take a peak and low and behold she was also trapped in her shell! So I just repeated the process I did earlier with the Sour Crack seeding and bam she has spread her cotyledon wings. Now I just have to wait on 1 more Sour Crack and Fantasmo to sprout and I will be 5 for 7. Which will make me feel a whole lot better about myself lol.

Does anyone have an opinion on Canna nute's? Right now I just have Sensi pH Perfect Coco Grow A&B, and VooDoo Juice, and I want to get some more supplementary nute's to run during veg and flower to get the most out of my plants. I was thinking about sticking with AN but the fact that they have everything broken down into a ton different bottles puts me off. Especially because it's obvious they do it this way to suck more money out of you. Example being Canna Boost. I'd have to get B52, Big Bud, Nirvana, and Bud Candy to equal what I could get in one bottle of Canna Boost, which is pricey too, but seems more cost and time efficient. I do want the best producing product at the end of the day though.

This is what I'm thinking of purchasing in 2 weeks:
1. Sensi pH Perfect Coco Bloom A&B
2. Canna Rhizotonic
3. Cannazym
4. PK 13/14
5. Canna Boost
6. Calimagic
7. Dyna Grow Protekt

If anyone can give me input on what they use other then diy mixes bc I feel too new to go to that level I would really appreciate it. For example if you believe I don't need all these products, or have gotten great results from products other then what I am thinking that are more cost effective that would help me a ton. As of right now getting the smaller bottles of these products plus grow light hangers, a light timer, and carbon filter is going to run me $226.17. I'd like to be closer to $150 lol, wishful thinking. Which is why I'm asking you experienced growers if I can cut some things out of this list that you think I don't need, or if you know of any products that are just as good that you've used to produce great product.

Thanks

I agree with you.
It has become a cycle of advertising hype feeding on our insecurity about giving our beloved plants every luxury. "don't you want the best for your children?"

If you want simple, cheap and easy high quality fertilizer try Dyna-gro Foliage Pro 9-3-6 - Liquid Fertilizer.

That little 8 oz bottle will be all you need from Seedling to chopping. That bottle will probably be enough food for several grows.

You said this is your first grow, right? Keep it simple, the less variables in the system....the less chance of things going wildly out of control. If you are learning about over watering then you don't need any extra drama from 5 different fertilizer supplements! And remember, plants don't need ANY fertilizer their first week after you plant the seed (some say the first two weeks). Guessing from the look of your soil they don't need water for a few days.

You said you are a perfectionist, so after a few grows when you are ready for more sophisticated fertilizers.... the talented Mr Tang has your back:

Keep in mind, using advanced nutes is like giving a Ferrari to a teenager. Chances are good the teenager will smash into the nearest brick wall. I am content to ride a bicycle with training wheels for a while.

May I ask, do you have a soil moisture meter? I don't remember a moisture meter in your posts.
I can't grow without one. I don't have Mr Tang's talent for knowing when to water by the weight of the container.

I check the soil moisture before I put the seed in the soil, and check again regularly. I killed a lot of plants and had a lot of mysterious problems before I started using a moisture meter regularly.

No I don't have a moisture meter, but I've been reading a lot of threads on the "interwebs" of growers using them! I think I'd definitely like a tool to tell me what the moisture level is for sure. I'm going to add that to my list and cut out a bunch of the Canna/AN nute's I was considering on the supplement side.

As far as nute's go, I've also read up some more and I'm thinking that I should definitely not have a bunch of bottles etc. Since I've already invested in the AN pH Perfect Coco Grow A&B, I was thinking I should just get the Bloom, Calimagic, and the Protekt. It sucks to be new lol. It definitely makes you want to buy all these products that a more experienced grower would be able to use and use correctly.

I've cut wayyyyy back on watering though, and also made my pots concave because I also read somewhere that it helps keep the water funneling inward when starting seedlings "over potting" them. It seems to be working. I now have 2 Crackberry photoperiod seedlings going which are doing extremely well, and I have 2 Sour Crack seedlings. Here's the breakdown of when they've broke surface:

1. Crackberry: July 14th
2. Crackberry: July 16th
3. Sour Crack: July 16th
4. Sour Crack: July 18th

Because of my mistakes early on I have this staggered sprout timeline. I also just have this one tent so I'm wondering how this is going to go. I still have 2 Fantasmo that I'm waiting on to sprout, they seem pretty finicky, but I am leaving them be even though it's taking them a lot longer. I have had to fight the urge to poke around in the Coco lol. I've had 3 sprouts helmet head on me so far so I'm thinking that's because I was over cautious in depth and may have been on the shallow side.

Also I just wanted to add something about these Crackberry Photos. I'm a newb, but these seem like EXTREMELY good genetics. They are definitely growing very well. The 1st one that sprouted for me has its 2nd set of true leaves and looks awesome. I'm new to growing so maybe it's just progressing normally, but it seems to be a very vigorous strain.

If anyone knows any details of this strain, or if Mephisto can chime in on what to expect that would be awesome. I haven't been able to find much info on them. If anything I fully suspect I will have no problems bringing them to term, as long as they are female, and I don't stress them into herming with my abuse lol.

I still get helmet head seedlings sometimes, it seems to be a caused by a combination of planting the seed too shallow and letting the seed shell get dry. Some people put a clear plastic cup over the dirt to keep the top layer moist until the seedling emerges.

I don't know anything about Crackberry, is that a Photosensitive freebie that you received from Mephisto?

here is a basic moisture meter from Amazon to get you started: $5.17

Yes it's a photoperiod reg freebie. I think it's Green Crack x Berry Kush.
