New Grower 1st time newbie grower: Tale of the 1st grow.

Hey all Lb187 here (A.K.A. Bigboi)

After many years of this being a "recreational" thing for me and my wife. We have after 20 years of smoking and giving my money to other people to step out on a limb and try this for the 1st time.

I've been reading and lurking around here for a week or three picking up tips. So here is what i have so far.

Setup:

18" W X 14" D X 36" H Lockable Grow Cabinet one of the turn key types that you can get on ebay etc..

1) 2" x 2" Grid Trellis/Scrog Screen

1) Intake Fan with replaceable air filter

1) Exhaust Fan with replaceable carbon filter

1) Adjustable Fan controller

3) Full Spectrum CFL bulbs

3) Flowering Spectrum CFL bulbs

1) power strip with timer

I am shopping at this time for the 6 or 8 site hydro kit with tub and bubbler etc...

Seeds:
Bought from Nirvana
Blue Mystic feminized autoflower (5 seeds)
Bubblelicious feminized autoflower (5 seeds)
+10 Randoms (hoping for another auto or 2)

I will add pics as everything rolls in and i get it set up.


I am coming to the pros and experienced people to ask for tips and hints to growing healthy heavy yielding auto's.

Do i change the light system? What nutes are best? What things to look for etc. I will be attempting to do a SCROG grow with this amount of space i have.

So basicly if its a piece of info you think i need i am willing to listen.

So my 1st questions to the forum would be.

How many plants would be optimal in the space i have.
What nutrient system would you suggest for a successful, healthy, full, hydro grow.

Me and my wife appreciate any advice or tips you guys have for us. Im so excited to finally get around to starting my own grow.

Cant really give ya any hydro advice but I can say welcome along from 1 noob to another. Good look dude.
also a heads up for ya...... the growing bug will get ya.... it got me bad and now I cant wait till my first grow is done so I can get my second 1 underway and hopefully without the noob errors I made in the beginning.

You are going to have a hard time growing heavy autos with only 36" of height with a hydro kit. The res itself is going to be about 18" high, that doesn't leave much head room for lights and plants. Have a look at rebel roy's thread. He just grew an awesome Stone Dragon in a 41" tall cabinet. Maybe consider doing a pot(no pun intended) grow to give you a little more height to your plants. In a 36" box you should be able to get a 2 gallon airpot and still have 24" of headroom for lights and plants. If you are dead set on hydro, it can be done but consider how you are going to get the scrog and plants out of the res to do water changes and clean your res throughout the grow. Also, if you run in to problems it is going to be hell to work around in there. That is just my suggestions. Not trying to dissuade you because it can be done, just want you to think everything through before you get started because once the plants get into that scrog it is going to be difficult to maneuver.

dude, ditch the hydro for now. I bought a similar product. Didn't work out well. Use a good soil and you will get results. Later change to hydro. I've grown in soil and get about 3oz for one ak47 auto plant. I want to do hydro just not ready. Better to get some herb than get frustrated. use soil, trust me.

Taking all the advice in, thanks for the tips. I'm gonna try to keep thse plants going as best as possible i have chosen low growing strains to fit withing a 30-32 inch growing space vertically. I can only hope it works out. If not lesson learned back to the drawing board.

But today i ordered from Sensible Seeds:
World of Seeds Afghan Kush Ryder Auto Feminized x3
and
Advanced Seeds Auto Skunk Mass Feminized x2

To toss into the mix, i think i will try for 6 plants... 2 of each strain out of that which i have purchased
Cabinet on its way bubbler is too should have everything i need to grow by monday and the seeds in the next week if all is well.

Will update with pics one the stuff rolls in weather permitting. A lot of my packages have already been held up by the weather.

Im interested in hearing opinions on lighting I await any info you guys may have to give on this subject.

LED is going to be your best bet if you can afford it. A four spot GN, California Lightworks makes a nice 200W, KIND or Blackstar. I wouldn't use anything other than LED in that space if you want to produce good quality. You can do CFL but the buds are going to be airy and you won't get the weight out of them. And for the record, I hate LED, but in your case it is the best option and don't mind recommending it.

Would i be over doing it by using a 240 w or a 300 w LED??

Only reason i ask is i have access to one or the other also i didn't want to overkill. and also does the number of bands matter? I see some that are 7, 9, 10 etc... Benifits they provide?

Just wanted to update this thread.

Due to bad weather it took a while to gather everything i needed, but i finally fot it all so here we go.

Gear:

36 inch tall grow secret grow cabinet with an 8 site tub.

Comes with the normal controllable intake/exhaust fans with carbon filters. Timer air pump etc.. Lined interior, lock yadda yadda.
I got a bit creative and added a temp gauge and a homemade co2 system for when the time is right. Added a easy spout to empty the water easier. I went out and bought a 220 w 10 band LED for the extra oomph.

Nutes/ETc..:
Fox Farms Trio
Full ph testing unit with a TDS Tester Meter

Seeds:

I bought a few different strains of autoflowers. But this round will be 3 x World of Seeds Afghan Kush Ryder 1 x Advanced Seeds Auto Skunk Mass (was a random buy) and 2 x Bubblicious Auto.by Nirvana.Pics:

Like i said its my 1st grow me and my wife are excited. I have done a lot of reading and i think i went overkill a lil bit my 1st time but id rather try my best if i try at all. I am open to any suggestions or tips. Feel free to drop on me whatever knowledge you may deem appropriate.
