I think hydroton works just fine in bubble buckets because you don't have a whole lot of it sitting in your water, and after the taproot hits the reservoir you generally lower the water level to below the hydroton. I would keep an eye on it though. River rock works great. They are now selling "Hydro Rocks". It all works. If you do have a problem, and switch back to rock, just check your ppm levels and watch to see that they don't consistently rise. I'm not geologist, but imagine there could be certain minerals and stuff in the rocks that could release into your nutrient solution. I've kept that in the back of my mind everytime I've used a different bag of River Rock from Lowes, but so far it has not happened at all. Just some thing to keep in mind I guess.
You should do fine with hydroton. If not and you still want to use it, try soaking it overnight in 1:4 vinegar, and water before use.
I stuck with the river rock because I know it works without any issues.

How can it be! I missed your new grow log, excuse me , can I join? Your setup is AMAZING!

My hanna ph pen doing it very strange as yours (did you test yours in solution that contain a lot of ppm, does it work there like it should?Mine does). I'm straggling with ph from beginning of the grow (already adjust and readjust pen more than 10 times). However didn't had any issues with this pen in my last grow, but I bought it later in my grow what make me think it is weak solution that make hanna not working like it should... I hope I would not need to buy a new one

UPDATE-
Day 12

After getting off to a rough start with my PH meter going to shit, it is continuing with P deficiencies. I figured once I fixed the PH they would take off and leave that all behind, but there are definitely still some lingering effects that are annoying the shit out of me. Same nutes, PH, EC, and temps as I usually run, and it's still touch and go everyday.
Still hoping most of them grow out of it. On top of that I'm running 14 different plants, not clones. Each plant wants something different.
Anyways, all is coming along and I'll do what I can to pull the goods in the end.
Quite the balancing act trying to find the middle ground with so many different plants.

Yeah, love the plants, but It's only been a few days and I've already got stink hand under the cast :cry:
I took one of my double port air pumps, and run two lines into the cast while I sleep to keep it dry. Actually works great. I can't believe more people don't do the same.

Sorry to hear about your hand Tavi, and hey running a new set up always has its share of ups and downs, for being the first run that you are doing this way, I would say you're off to another good start, the nice thing about MJ is that she is a hardy plant, she'll treat you right!!! Looking great so far.
