Indoor 2nd Autogrow: Paradise Seeds - "Pandora" (fem) under 90 Watt LED in 15inch x 20inch x 6 foot closet

Hey 420ing, I just looked through your grow and let me just say it's looking great, your plant is healthy and lush, look at all that undergrowth and leathery leaves - beautiful. The spotting definitely looks like cal-mag to me, especially since on the leaves affected there is a slight chlorosis (veins darker than the rest of the leaf), so continue the cal-mag treatment and foliar is a good option.
My two cents regarding the seedling you lost in the beginning - the symptoms you describe perfectly damping off - it's a fungal disease the seedlings are prone to when overwatered, so maybe in the future you could make sure the root cubes are less wet and just moist enough, to avoid this :)

I'm glad to see you managed to fit the carbon filter in the cabinet although it's a tight fit - it will pay off by giving you a peace of mind when flowering starts. Sound-proofing the fan is a good idea (I wish I had enough DIY skills do attempt it unfortunately I'm utterly useless), I have heard that potential problems depend on the type of the fan - mixed-flow fans are self-cooling hence should not overheat, whereas centrifugal ones might pose more of a challenge. Then again I suppose it depends on the usage you're getting out of your fan - in such a small cabinet and under LED I'm assuming you don't plan on keeping it on full all the time so maybe you are going to be ok? Let us know :)

Either way all the best and also Happy New Year to you! :Ohmmm.......:

Hey thanks for the positive feedback and reassurance with the cal/mag thing! I definetly love this plant it's the best one i've ever had and the biggest by far! I had thought about the possability of dampning off being the cause of my last seeds demise. I had accidently knocked it out of the soil when it was young with my finger the soil was very very loose so it just popped out very easily there was no roots damaged or anything the stem might have been bent a little at the time it happend but i couldn't even see any sign of that. I think i must have injured/shocked it enough to weaken it to the point something got inside it and killed it off. Coincidently i was looking at a thread on dampning off a few days ago maybe a week actualy and it pretty much reminded me of exactly what happened to my seedling. I reckon if i hadn't knocked it over it would have been fine but i definetly do agree with the dampning off diagnoses i just think the stress at that early stage in the game allowed it to take hold.

About the fan speed. I plan on buying a speed controller for it. I read up on it and i can see that using a dimmer switch is a no-no so i found a place selling the right ones for the job. I think it's like 65-70 watts and the speed controller im planing to buy can support any fan between 20 watts and 200 watts so im well within that range. If i can get it running at the lowest speed on the dial then thats going to be significantly less airflow and should help my temps stay within proper range. Even 50% power should be good enough i reckon to keep the temps dipping down as low.

16.5c at night is getting too close to the stage where the roots ability to take up nutirents at night time will be limited and also the big fluctuation in the daytime and nighttime temp can cause stretching and i dont want that to happen so i plan on getting the speed controller ASAP.

I think i can already see the benefit of the extra airflow though! I have my webcam in the closet so i can moniter the growth and i see the leaves happily dancing away with the fresh air flowing through the leafs from the bottom of the closet and my humidity is now within the correct range for flowering! I plan on setting up a cam in there so that my next grow is fully documented visually at least from the start to finish and make a timelapse out of it! It's something i've always wanted to do. I am fascinated with plant growth there's something about it that gives me an inner peace inside lol.

I will take some more pictures of my baby tomorrow but for now i will leave you with this pic from my webcam that i am in love with lol.

Oh another thing i love about this carbon filter........my room smells sooooo fresh!!!!! lol.

Peace!

Hello again! I just took some pics and i noticed something a little worrying on 2 of my lowest/oldest fan leafs. The rest of the leafs look fine to me and don't have this sort of damage. I noticed them going weird a couple of day's ago but didn't give it much thought......

DSC01905.jpgDSC01906.jpg

Why has this happend? the first thing i noticed a couple of days ago was the colour and texture went a bit weird on the parts that have now become yellow. I was wondering if maybe some of the water with calmag got on the leafs when i was watering could it cause this? is it just because they are the oldest leafs? Could the close proximity of the leafs to the damp soil have done anything like that? I really don't know why they went this way lol.

The rest looks healthy to me though but im starting to think i should be feeding it now even if its just a tiny amount maybe even just mollasses? I have a bottle of HY-PRO Grow & Bloom the N-P-K is 2-5-5 the only thing that worries me about it is the nitrogen it contains becuase i think at the start of the grow there was some slightly deformed/clawed leafs due to the fact it had 40% BioBizz All-Mix mixed into the plant magic soil supreme........i have never ever gave it any fertaliser only Magne Cal+. Could i give it like a 1/8th strength dose and see how it reacts?

I think she wants feeding 420ing I got a Pandora as well and she is taking 2ml of a/b bloom Dutch pro 1ml explode and 1ml top bud per litre but I am nearly finished so I would start with 1\4 dosage and see how she responds

I read a few threads on here last night and in one of them Muddy was telling a guy who used biobizz all-mix for his grow to start using fertaliser and his plant was almost the exact same age as my one at the time so i decided to give it a 1/8th strength feed last night with some magne cal+ aswell.

She's probobly needed food for a while then since my soil only contained 40% of the too hot all-mix. I just took the most damaged leaf off and left the other there. I also took the very first set of leafs of that only had 1 finger and one of the 2nd sets aswell because i planted her a bit too deep and they were touching thew soil all the time and didn't look too healthy + i don't want any potantial pests in the soil to be climing onto the leafs and having a feast lol.

I forgot to mention last night but i got a timer to use on my extraction fan so it turns on for 15 mins and off for 15 mins throughout the day but its still not good enough the temp dips down to 19c during the dark hours and during the day its around 22c-24c.

Another issue that i didn't expect to be as bad is the humidity.....even after just 15 mins being turned off the humidty climbs as high as 90% so i have an idea of how im going to try and improve that using a small PC fan at the bottom of the closet. It's nowhere near good enough but i reckon it should be fine a for a few days untill my fan speed controller arrives in the post since she's not got any buds to rot yet lol......not long to go now though!

Im thinking of bending the top of her 90 degree's to bring the height down to the same level as the rest of the side branches so that i can get the light down a little closer to the rest of the leafs. Should i just use string to do this? I tried it with my hand to see how easy it was and the top bent over no bother i just need something to hold it there. I feel afraid to do anything that i've not tried before lol.

Hmm im geting more worried now lol. I realised when i've been adding nutes to my water that its too acidic but all i know is that its bellow 6 as thats as low as my scale goes. I haven't checked with the soil PH meter to determine what the soil's PH actualy is yet i will do that later today when i get back from work it's one of the long probed that u stick in the soil and because im using an airpot i figure i can stick it in one of the holes at the side close to the bottom of the pot to disturb the roots as little as possable. I just need to collect it form a friends then i'll know pretty much for sure what the actual soil PH is. My water's PH seemed to be a bit higher than it was last time i checked it was about 6.5 maybe a little more(hard for me to tell on the colour chart thingy)

I have some more pics of her i had to tie the top down with a shoelace as it started to grow up higher than the rest of the canopy over a couple of day period. i managed to take about 6 or 7 inches of height off her by doing this and got the light down closer so its all evenly spread out now and getting an equal amount of light.

I am still notcing this yellowing and eventual dying off of the very lowest leafs..... theres still only a couple effected but i don't want it to keep progressing like this. I guess im gonna have to go to the infirmary and ask about it! I'll get the pics of of her and of the damage now.

Hey 420ing, happy to hear you've been very proactive in seeking the roots of any potential issues on your grow.

I agree with stretch that you most definitely should give the plant a light feeding now and see how she reacts - right now it seems like she might be N hungry (yellowing of the lower leaves), the same thing happened to my plants though with the 1-2 lowest sets of leaves, they were constantly getting wet and mottled, the plants eventually sapped the nutrients out of them and they started to wilt - it was a good decision to cut them off as they would have died anyway and invited the presence of pests/mold. I think it's a normal thing that happens on every grow.

I can't unfortunately comment on pH issues as I've never grown in soil.

It was also a good move to start the LST - you will only gain from this, by bending down the main stem the nodes inside will be exposed and you will achieve more bud sites - I'm sure you know the drill. You can just tie the top down with a bit of a string and maybe try bending it down every day a tiny bit more until you achieve the 90 degree bend - if it goes all at once that's fine too but I tried to do it too fast and I snapped the stem, ouch, don't want that to happen to you. Also if you're tying the top with a string make sure to make another tie in the opposite direction at the base of the stem (if that makes any sense) so that you don't put pressure into uprooting the plant.
There was a very good LST tutorial somewhere here but I can't find it now, here is a good grow journal by Grim Reefer who uses LST very well.

Not sure what to suggest regarding the humidity issues - is there a way you would be ableto fit a 6 inches clip on fan? That would provide more airflow than a PC one. With extraction on constant but lowered intensity this should improve though, you should be shooting for approx 40% or less in flower though.

Best of luck :):goodluck:

Cheers londonpeach! I ended up snapping my stem as u said by bending it too much and too soon. I got the 90 degree bend pretty easily i think my problem was tying it down with too much pressure pulling on it. I was about to go in to loosen it up and thats when i found it was snapped......lol Oh well lesson learned! I found out my soil was too acidic it was like 4.5 and i had to flush it to bring it back up to a normal level. I also realised the water was fine out of the tap but as soon as i added any nutes it went acidic with a PH way under 6. I've now managed to use a tiny bit of baking soda to PH balance a 750ml bottle of water with some magne cal+ and hy-pro terra grow & bloom nutes and gave her some of that and i think i will let it dry out before doing anything else unless advised to do otherwise? Was thinking might aswell give it a bit more of the nutes PH'd to 6.5 then test the soil again?

The condition of the lowest fan leafs deteriorated quickly in the acidic soil and the lack of nutes probobly didn't help either. I lost about 8-10 leafs i think because of it, some of them are still alive but i know that they wont last long lol. I hope it's now fixed or at least halted it getting any worse! I'll take a couple of pics and post them after i get a bit more stoned lol.

Peace:bong:

Sorry bout the last post i was drunk and excited lol. I have upgraded my light to 180 watts now(actual wattage). It's a Mars light with the 3 watt diodes compared to my previous light which was 87 watts and used 5 watt diodes. Should this make a significant difference to the amount of buds she can produce? I was little bit worried that the 3 watt LED's might somehow not be as good even though theres more watts being used.

Im happy to announce that the damage that was occuring on the lower leafs because of the lack of nutes & the PH of the soil being too acidic due to me not PH balancing the water after adding nutes (Doh!) has now stopped progressing and she is growing by the hour. I had flushed the soil to raise the PH up but in the process lost my calcium and nutes from the soil and was starting to notice the orange calcium def spots apearing on newer growth and i rectified that by giving her nutes and mag/cal+. I was worried about over watering her becausew of the flush then giving nutes a day or 2 later before it had dried out but she handled it well and the soil drys out pretty damn quick now so i think she's drinking and eating alot more!

Here are some pics of her under the new light :)

This is now about 41 days old now i think she popped out the soil/shell at the start of Dec.

Have a great day people!
