Hi Everyone,

Just recently purchased a Hi Par 315w LEC system with digital ballast. the ballast is separate outside the tent and their is no glass between bulb and plants. 3.1k

Now I was under the impression that heat isnt too much of an issue with them. I own a 3x3x6 grow tent with a carbon filter + 4" exhaust fan + air circulation fan at the bottom, and a fan pointing directly at the 315w. And I'm seeing temperatures of 90F in there! 180mm fan pointing directly up and at it..

Not to sure what else to do.. Any recommendations would be very much appreciated..

HID... may run cooler than hps or mh... but I see some mounted in cool tubes... suggests to me that bulb throws some heat.

Am running a 4x4 with 9 cobs, and with the vent fan running I see low to mid 80s with ambient @75.

When I was running hid (not the newer versions) I had to have a dedicated A/C unit for the grow. If the lights were on, so was the AC.

Not sure there's an easy answer here... different lights...add cooling...
Maybe a cool tube...

Yeah she aint cool thats for sure!

Hmm intresting. Too expensive and suspicous on the electricity bill to add a dedicated a/c imho.

Maybe air cooled reflector is the way to go... the maker does a hps cmh double bulb air cooled fixture

315w fixtures run cooler than hps. But still put off a good amount of heat. The only thing you can do to lower temps is exhaust the heat.. Open the flaps on the tent, turn up the exhaust fan, leave the tent unzipped/open when lights are on, ect. I don't have enough details, but I wouldn't think a 180mm fan would do anything to cool a 315w fixture. I have a regular sized oscillating fan hanging upside down, from the top of my tent, blowing directly on my 315.. Without that, my temps would be way out of control.

Find a cool tube, vent in, and out on a fan. Should take care of the heat around the light. What kind of radiant heat are you seeing @ plant level?

Yeah so i've came to realize. Ive just ordered a air cooled reflector. guess il just have to open her up abit until that comes.. fair enough! I thought it would pointing directly at it, its quite powerful compared to a 150mm. guess not.

Just ordered one.. Hi-Par-Dual-HPS-CMH-Air-Cooled-Reflector-E40-SE-and-PGZ18-CMH-Lamp-Mount. No doubt should get the job done. Im getting 91F AT PLANT LEVEL!

Would my 170cmf fan + carbon filter be big enough, efficent enough to go : FILTER > HOOD > FAN > OUT.

Really gonna be hard to tell. Kinda a lot of variables... how hot it runs... your ambient temps... how many cfm your flowing past...and how much radiant heat is actually heating the tent. My old HPS you could feel the warmth @ the canopy.... my led set up I could almost touch without too much heat. Maybe try a box fan pointed @ the open tent flap till things come in? Mid 80s get me queezy unless I'm running CO2.
