I'm gonna give this a go, I do however have some reservations about autos. I have a pal that tried them and he only got about 3G per plant! Before you all start sniggering ( I know I did ) the fella knows how to grow, photo periods at least, I've seen his set up at various stages of a grow and it's everything it should be. He says he usually runs an nft so he did the autos in 5L pots of soil. Can anyone tell me why this is if EVERYONE else is getting bucket loads off their plants? I have bio bizz soil, light and all mix, a 200w cfl on 20/4 and a 400w hps on 12/12. I intend to start them off under the cfl then move them under the hps once they get too smelly (I only have one carbon filter and limited space). Please tell me I can expect to get a better return on my time than my mate did!

You will suffer greatly from a 12/12 light schedule, autos thrive at 18/6 20/4 or 24/7 and probably contributed to your mates auto with a poor yield, my first Auto was about 9g dry but was on a window sill for half her life. My second has at least an Oz on her with 10 days til chop, I found they require alot more attention than photos but treat them well and they certainly reward you 
First of all what is a NFT? Second, what strain did he grow? In order to get bigger yields you need bigger pots no less than 3.5 gal or biggerand a known strain that produces higher yields.You should run the cfl and hps both at the same time but skip the 12/12and stay on 20/4. You didn,t say anything about nutes and you need some good veg and good flower nutes to have a good yield. Not everyone is getting buckets of weed like you say,it takes a time and several grows to learn the correct way to grow autos correctly.I have been growing for two years and still learn something knew with every grow.I just got over 200 gram from three dark devils and I consider that average.Get a detailed list of what you will use for your grow and we will give you a hand so you too can have buckets of weed.

m8 you will get way more than 3g - even an idoit like me got an oz off my first grow. The biggest grow I ever had was 4.5oz off the one plant, and this was in a 15l pot using Biobizz nutes.
light cycle is as people have already advised, anything on or above 18/6 and they grow great - during the winter I go 24/0 - they dont like 12/12. They are less forgiving than photoperiod because they have a fixed veg period, so if you may any mistakes there is no veging longer.
Yeah i used 70w cmh on my first grow no ph meter miracle grow nutes totally neglected it within reason and in 10l pots got 30g although second go had severe lock out problems prob due to use unphed tap water got 14g first one was think different second was blueberry. Still haven't brought a ph meter but using 150w got one blueberry and one hijack, hijack is severly n deficiant prob due to ph but blueberry this time round is looking real good. Moral is keep everything good ie ph etc etc and you will prob have real sweet grow if not then you will still be very unlucky to only get 3g a plant esp using bigger power
