I want to turn a closet into a grow space ... one w/ about six double receptacles (3 up + 3 down) w/ 1/2 of each receptacle being controlled by a timer inside the door of the closet w/ a normal switch outside the closet that can shut it all down in an instant ... I'd like it to be done right so I'd like to hire an electrician ... How does one go about finding an electrician for a job like this ... It would seem to me that it would be obvious what I was building ...

I use one of these timers currently and I'd like to use it as a timer for the space ... I may need one for lights and one for ventilation ...

When I wired up my closet, I used the same company I'd already been using for my house electric. I suppose I didn't really give it much thought since I'm in Colorado and supposed to be legal and all, so I didn't really care too much if the electrician knew. But, I did only have them wire up the main drop from my breaker box to the closet, then put in a 4 outlet gang box. From there, I did the rest of the cabling and wiring myself so it may not have been as obvious what I was trying to do. Had been a while since I wired outlets...forgot just how little space there is to play with in those ****ing gang boxes. :smoking:

I just told them that I need more power in the room and wanted to wire up a box in the closet. I know I thought about hinting that I was going to build out a small server farm in the closet since I'm an old tech dude and have lots-o-computer bits laying around the office the closet it in, but just decided to go with not being specific and "I need power here".

Primarily I went with that model because it's rated at 20amp and since the circuit was a 20amp circuit (per it's breaker at the main box) I wanted to keep it as "up to code" as possible and match all the switches and outlets with ones rated the same.

Anyhow...hope you find one that's cool, wish I could be more help on how to sniff one out.

I like that timer Ozone ... I may just brush up on my wiring and do it myself ... or get an electrician to put in a 20 amp circuit for a closet light w/ a switch outside the door and wire the rest myself ... still seems a little suspicious but not as bad as having him put in the timer and added receptacles ...

Ask at a grow shop? The one I use offers a design service and likely know lots of tradesmen to build rooms for growing "chillies" in.

I plan on using a friend of an old friend when I upgrade...plenty sparkies are into a smoke too

Grow shop is a good thought. One that I frequent recommended a HVAC company when I was thinking of some ventilation and talking to them about it. They knew them because a couple of the techs shopped at the grow store and talked to the owners about their growing as well.

Grow shop is a good idea !! I went up in the attic today and I can say w/o a doubt I can't do it ... hate to think what the cost will be but it will be worth it ...

Even if it costs a plant I reckon it will be well worth it too. I might need a new fuse box but I reckon I'm going to need to make channels in brick walls to hide the cable and redecorate 2 rooms after.

Have some 420 friendly double glazing dudes coming first though.....hopefully that will get me enough brownie points to proceed with more power
