Howdy Afn my very first post.... im doing a Scrog grow in a 4x4 area with 2 8bulb T5 lights with Think different. im thinking of only putting 3 ladies in there in 5 gallon smart pots. my first question would be is 5 gallon overkill? And my second do you think i can fit 4 ladies in 4x4 tent or should i go with less? Third question is how far do i put my Screen up from the girls base of stalk tent is 79 inches tall or something close...thanks

5 gal should be fine for the TD. I think you could go with six in that area with no problems. I'm not sure about the screen so someone else will have to help you on that.styles rasta

Hey smokes,

Welcome to AFN. When you have a moment, stop by the intros page so everyone can get to know you.

To answer you question, I use 5 gallon smart pots on almost everything I run. It is not overkill at all. My roots always fill the pot up completely! I have actually considered going up to 7.

That being said, with larger pots you are going to have a larger plant. Especially with the TD's. I would seriously consider only using 2 plants. I grow in a 4x4x7 and can tell you, with 5 gallon pots and a scrog you are going to be happy with 2 plants, save your other beans for a second grow. 4 plants is entirely too much for that area. You will get almost the same yield with 4 as you would with 2.

I currently have two Jet-47s in a five gallon Smartpot...one is short at only around a foot tall, but the other is over two feet tall and should be a solid yielder once it fills out!

Two in a 4x4 area, does the scrogging spread them out or what.I run three or four in a 2x4 foot area.

thanks for all the help guys i will swing by the intro page.

Yes namvet it spreads them out evenly across a chicken fence or net system for more budsites reaching light is how i understand which makes for more medium size flowers across the plant instead of 1 main cola

anyone for how high i should start my screen when the girls sprout?

The picture below was 2 Polar Lights in a 4x4 space. Take into consideration the TD's are going to be much more productive than these plants were but you get the idea. There really isn't enough room for 4, maybe one more could have been squeaked in but i don't think you gain much from it. In the 5 gallon pots it allows for the branches to really expand out. You can try it, but I will say this, After those two I grew 5 in there and swore I would never do it again. An absolute pain in the ass. Humidity levels were skyrocketing, I had to buy a 25 liter dehumidifier and a portable AC unit just to keep the tent in the low 80's. The leaves were constantly transpiring on each other and causing problems. I am not saying it can't be done but the TD's are gonna get big in 5 gallon pots and with ample room to spread out I don't think you gain much. You only have so many holes to fill in with the scrog and then, no matter how many plants you have in the tent. It is over. You will be trimming everything else. But, I haven't done it either, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Thanks for the info 420,scroging is indeed a different animal so I retract my original recommendations and suggest he follows you advice, thanks.:smokebuds:

thanks i will take it as more knowledge.. Maybe i should just let them grow. Im doing a T5HO grow from seed to harvest in 5 gal smartpots with complete Foxfarm/BushDoctor Line and FFOF as soil I have done this before with 3gal black cheapy pots with good success. was hoping the scrog might boost yield from less plants but most i see they let the TD go wild. Maybe Dutch passion Tony can chime in on it or maybe someone who has scrogged a TD... Beans are wet so a decision is close
