Grow Mediums 7 Think Different in a 4 x 7ft scrog!!!!!

Subbed on this.. I would love to see the "construction" on the drip system.. was looking into ebb/flow system. Because I want to run a scrog using dwc.. instead of separate buckets like I have now..

The end of day 2, it;s gonna be a good one!!!

I have decided to give a step by step tutorial on this grow...
IMG_0149.jpgIMG_0150.jpg

Right now the grow area is actually a room inside a room, completely framed in with one by three's. The panda paper (pic 2) arrived today with some other goodies. Pic 1 is a shot from entering the room at the door, tomorrow it will be a solid white containment because of the panda paper. Air will be coming in from a thin slot at the top of the door, plus fresh air from the window unit...always a constant supply of fresh air. In fact from my calculations the air gets exchanged every 2 min or so unless we close it off to give a CO2 boost which you'll see later!

I'm going to try to make this thread a newbies dream. Above is a complete line-up of nutrients that I will be using, minus the ingredients for a tea that will be brewed and I will show how the tea is done later as well. I will do my best at showing when, how much, and at what intervals these nutrients will be used. As of now I am running ph'd ro water (ph 5.9/ppm 0007). We have found a very good source of ro water out of the Glacier machine at the local market. Yes I am the man you see standing at the machine with 8 plus 5 gallon water containers patiently waiting for them to fill wondering if anybody has a clue what I am really doing with two shopping carts of water. This will probably go on until the start of week two, but I will let you know if anything changes.

The reason I say it's gonna be a good one...

The last 2 breeders I have went with, Greenhouse Seeds and now Dutch Passion, have both popped on day two and started one small sucker leaf...simply amazing. As a matter of fact I checked four out of seven rock wool cubes and they were all popped!!!! I can't wait and will be back after I get the walls and ceiling panda'd with new pics of the room. I love you all and happy growing family.

Super excited about this one.. are those rdwc buckets? it looks from the pics that's what's set up... again. Looking awesome meng!

No molegrower it's not rdwc. It's a simple drip system, with a main line off a pump that runs to spaghetti lines for the feed in each bucket (1/4 in line for feed line off of a 3/4 in main line). At the bottom of each bucket is a half inch gromet with half inch tube that connects all the buckets to one main return line. I'll post some pics later on this subject, only because I'm yet to see how it's gonna work when the roots get big enough to maybe cause a problem...but I don't think so. It drains like a champion with no leaks.

Cool beans brotha... I have about 6 plants going at one time.. three flower, three veg... checking every bucket sucks.. Lol.. wanted to have two main res tanks.. one for veg.. one for flower.. was thinking of a 4 plant flood and drain system..times 2... I have all the equipment.. . looking for options.. :-)

Ok, so I know none of you here at AFN really know me or who I am. When I ran into my new associate after moving out of a medical marijuana state (currently live in a non-medical, all illegal state! It's actually better that way) we decided to go the route of the auto flower. I know I will probably never have Dutch Passion bring me free seeds like some lmao!!! I am known as the quiet one with a lot of pot some say. I'm standing in the grow area right now and I'm looking at this massive scrog thinking, "F@#k I'm gonna need some help on this one!" I have a lot of information to give, and I'm willing to give it away...actually years of experience. So I'm asking for help, kinda like assembling a team. Please just keep an eye on our grow. If you see something that should be changed, say so! If you see something that is right and outstanding, say so! I can take criticism as well as a compliment. So for the few of you that will be tuning in, please stay tuned.

As of right now I did not germinate the seeds outside of the rock wool, I usually don't. All the seeds have popped, yes all 7. I was running water at 6 am and 6 pm, but today we made a decision to only give fresh water (ph'd water) in the am. For those of you who germinate outside of the growing media I know water is not a bad thing, I see some put the seeds right in a cup of water to get them to pop. I figure I will only give water now in the am so the rest of the day it will force the sprouts to go in search of it. I know once they break the surface it will be only time before they come out the bottom of the rock wool cube and start the tap root. Maybe it's just the excitement of it all, but it causes this nervousness that gets to me. Anyways, that's my sermon for the day. Thanks for listening, and please...give it to me straight. In this thread, we are gonna "keep it real" if you wanna put it that way. I feel others, as well as myself, learn best that way. So I'm gonna finish putting up this panda and will be back with pictures in a bit. I love you all, and happy growing to everybody!!! AFN RULES!

Love it all!!

Im all about keeping it real. Thinking outloud and bouncing ideas back and forth is a critical part of the process for me, and a major reason why I came to this place. Ive got a few comments, I suppose.

I don't run a SCROG, but heavily and aggressively LSTed a large number of plants in coco my previous grow. It was basically a scrog with an invisible net. I did this with F2s for a Critical Jack x White Widow cross that I made. THis may be relevant, because apparently there are a wide variety of phenotypes for Think Different. One thing that I noticed, is that some plants will respond alot better to the stress than others. In hydroponics, this can exascerbate the 'problem' of some plants growing into monsters, while others get left behind.

Keep a close eye on all of the plants, and account for their neighbors. I had the benefit of being able to shuffle my plants around daily, like a game of tetris to maximize the canopy. In a locked RDWC system, under a net you will not have that luxery. Make sure take some extra time staring off into the garden, trying to imagine what they will look like in the weeks to come. When you are training, you really need to make each move with the mindset of being 3 steps ahead of your plants. Filling the canopy evenly can be a bit tricky with autos, because different plants will all grow at different rates, and we cannot control when they are ready to be flipped. You have to walk that line between cooperating with each plant, but at the same time dictating where it will grow.

Defoliation will be necessary, although many advocate against it. Do not defoliate heavily in one sitting. Take a leaf or two from a plant each time you tend to the garden as long as they are healthy. I love silica products for the stress resistance and strength, but silica can make training a bit tricky in a DWC. In coco, I can allow my plants to dry out, which makes them much more flexible and pliable for training. In DWC they will be stronger, and more rigid, and the addition of Silica may work against you in that case.

Also, Think Different can be an absolute monster. I have seen grows where she ate the scrog net like a finger sandwich on superbowl sunday. A couple of monsters, combined with your skills, mixed in with the variation of phenotypes could make for a messy net. It may be wise to begin construction of a second tier of your net that way you can begin the training as early as possible to try and keep things more managable, and the second net will be the one you fill up.

An easy way of adding an additional layer of net would be to replace the PVC Corner joints, with custom 4 way corners. You may be able to find some on ebay or amazon. Apparently people make furniture out of PVC, so you can get all kinds of neat pieces for custom projects

The reason why I friended SkatterBrayne is because he did not comment one time in my last grow, yet when I started this grow he mentioned in one of the posts about the LSTing I did in my last grow, so I know he read and actually actively participated in my last grow without saying a word!?!?
Thank you SkatterBrayne :slap: to you my friend.

Here it is now, our corridor of lovelyness (soon to come lovelyness!) It really made things bright and white.

And from the back of the room looking back toward entrance1391139062609.jpg

We only have a little over a foot on each side of the 7 foot long scrog to get ourselves in position to tuck the plants. Everything can be reached easily and serviced easily, yet we maximized the entire grow area...which I believe is the idea of a grow area. Look, if your in a legal state, god bless you. If your in a state like me that still is behind the times and marijuana is still illegal, then if your gonna have an illegal area, you better use all of it!!! The room is 10x6 and is used to the max in my opinion with a 4x7 scrog, ac unit, filter, fan, 2 hoods, and ballasts. But from the looks of things now, we will call this Thread the "Corridor of Lovelyness".

And yes my corners are not glued just in case we need to enlarge the scrog at anytime. I figure this...If increasing the scrog size is my biggest problem, I am one happy problem solver! That means a lot more of what is already gonna be a hell of a lot of sticky goodness. I figured when it gets to week 5 or 6, and we were talking about this earlier, it will be a chess match on where to tuck the branches and how to fill it in properly. I am so excited and up for the challenge. Everything still drains properly with no leaks after moving things slightly to get the panda in place. It was put up only making 3 cuts...virtually seamless. Spray glue and a few screws with washers to fasten it in place. The panda was 6 mils thick. I'm gonna need some help on when to stop tucking? At what week do you stop tucking to get that last little bit of stretch ind have perfect 12 colas? We have been watching Dutch Passion time lapsed video on YouTube the last couple of days and trying to pinpoint the last week of its stretch. But I'm sure if I do my part, the good people like Roark2.0 will be here to help. All of you kick A$$, and Happy Growing To All.
