just bought a light mover. I am running 1000 watt MH in a preditor fixture ( big sucker ) mounted to a light mover that runs along a 3 foot rail, about a foot in each direction from center so about 2 and a half feet total. the fixture is not cooled and the glass has been removed. ambiant heat is not an issue, but I am concerned with radiant heat to the plants. right now the bulb is about 18 inchs from the tops of the plants and I am waiting for some indication of heat stress to the top leaves. when this happens I will raise the light a few inchs, take a measurement to the bulb and that's were I will runn it. the hand test seems ok so far but also I am thinking I can get real close since the light is moving and wont be directly above the plants for more the maybe a minute or less. I do have an ossilating fan that blows across the tops and into the fixture that helps keep the plants and fixture cool. basically I am letting the plants grow into the light till there is an issue. I have also read about ppl having issues with stunting and basically the plant shying away from the light but not sure if I should worry about this since the light is moving. has anyone else ran 1k on a light mover?

I ran a 4 ft hydrofarm light mover, the one with the gear and chain. It worked very well until the motor failed In less than a year. The mover also would twist and turn the hood as the ducting pissed it off at each end the run.

I think they are best suited for open reflectors.

it did work like a champ when it worked lol

You can have the 1kw 12-18in above plants if ur room is cool enough but i usually went 24" + as you get a wider spread the higher you hang.

sounds like your going to see some kick ass nuggets soon.

ya my fixture is twisting as well. I am gonna fab a new holder from some steel stock I have lieing around so its not suspended from the eye hook. that should do the trick. I was thinking about 12 inchs as well but I think I will let the girls grow into the light and see.
