I bought a used microscope to try seeing the biology in my AACT teas and soil. It is an American Optical model 10. with 10x eye piece 10x, 45x, 100x objectives. I paid $85, its worth maybe $65. it's in rough shape. but it works for soil.
The last tea I made was
Should I brew longer until I see more biology like micro arthropods and nematodes?
I saw organisms larger than the bacteria whizzing around. At 100x they are about pinhead size. Can I assume these are flagellets?
I also looked at the soil that has been cooking for 4 weeks and getting AACT applied once a week. In here I noticed bacteria at 450x and a few nematodes at 100x and something that looked like an inch worm in shape and movement. I thought it might be a fungus gnat larvae. I have a current infestation. There were also some nice fungal hyphae.
I am having a problem with the lighting and contrast. Like I can't see any flagella or cillia on the organisms at 450x. Any links or suggestions are helpful.
All these organisms I think I am seeing is all based on 6 weeks of searching the internet and reading teaming with microbes. I wish it had a camera.
