Hi!

I have read so many times on this forum that you need to start seeds in NON-nute soil---that you shouldn't add any nutes until the 3rd week of growth.

Well, I planted a seed in NON-nute soil, mixed with Perlite. It wasn't until I was all done planting that I noticed the Perlite has Miracle Gro in it!!!

So, is there any hope for this seed/plant? Are the nutes in the Perlite going to ruin it or turn it male or something?

I appreciate any advice you can give!

Thanks,
E

No don't worry. If you look at the nute ingrediance on the bag there is such a low number on the nutes that it won't affect your plant.

sivaji ,

Hey bud, namvet is pretty much bible. I am using Aqua flake, which is like in the decimal point for N-P-K and i will as a newer grower probably say it may be the best re-circulate or hydro base nutrient. people get to wrapped up on big numbers, water is your biggest priority (ph) followed by medium, followed by nutes. Look up Muddy, A4, Waira, and plenty others on here. Where I found aqua flake was by a grower on youtube named hyrgrohybrid(who statiscally grows 1lb plants every f-ing time). Namevet is dead on those numbers are arbitrary to good growing. sup vet!

I think you're just a bit confused. If using a soil like Fox Farms Ocean Forest that already contains a lot of nutrients in the form of worm castings, guano or composted manure, then no additional nutrients are needed for the first 3-4 weeks. If you are using a soil less mix, such as Pro Mix or Sunshine #4, they contain no nutrients so some must be given right from the start. In your case, since your mix has no nutrients, you would start with a very mild solution, about 1/8 of the manufacturers recommendation, and slowly increase the strength until you are eventually at 1/2 strength maximum. I agree, the small amount of nutrients in the MG perlite won't cause an issue. It's when it's used in conjunction with MG soils that we see problems. Next time, just give the perlite a good rinse before using it.
