Lighting Advice for converting Mars Reflector 48x3

Tangle yes they sell to the public
if you order from digikey they add 20% vat on top of screen price and if you order £50 or more free postage
the chips are sent from the United States but it only takes a few days (I ordered on Sunday got them in my hands Wednesday )

Thanks all. My budget is around 100 squid. If I can get hold of a better driver for decent £ that would be good then perhaps. Hmm, I think I need to do a whole lot more research before I decide what to get as there is obviously lots of factors involved with finding the sweetspot for your budget. One thing i do know is that I don't want to be drawing much more than 100w from the wall.

4 Cxa 2530's on those drivers will get you very close to 100 watts. With the holders and cobs here it's about $15 each so $60 total.

Why does cobkits.com say call the citizen 36v nominal cobs?

I have always interchanged that word with "average". The Citizen CLU048-1212 COB can run from about 32v up to 37 volts I believe. I don't know how I have missed the Citizen CLU058-1825 COBs but I am really rethinking my next build to run them instead of the CREE cxb3590's.

I'm checking citi spreadsheet and every cob I see is 50v besides the 1212

Tangle foot those are the same size drivers that were in my mars 180 ufo
I'm using them to drive 6 vero 18s at around 15 watts each
90watts total at 150 lumens per watt
I got the chips from digikey.co.uk
hope this helps

What did you use for a heatsink on your build nudd ? Im trying to figure out what would be good for my 4 Cxa 2530's which also fits into the reflector case. Cheers

Ok looks like there are loads of heatsinks available on eBay.

These are the cobs Im ordering, good enough ?? I'm still not 100% sure what 'bin' means, i can't see any mention of it here anyhow ?

Here are the holders -

I want to get a really good contact between the cobs & heatsink. I have some left over Arctic MX-4 from when i replaced a cpu so Ill assume this will do the trick. I also remember that the very least amount of compound you use between the surfaces the better, this is the case with cpu's - again ill assume its the same with cobs ? Also, will the holders facilitate me to bolt them firmly to the heatsink in some way for maximum contact ?

thanks!

Thanks nudd, this is a thing I'm not too sure about as I don't want to burn out the cobs ..obviously

Am wondering if I should get some reflectors for the cobs as well ?

Anyone any idea what bin the cobs are from digikey ?

Apologies if I'm asking daft questions btw.. but there you go :pass:
