I've harvested one of three compromised plants. The other two are in the on deck circle. Because of her problems and smaller than normal yield I'm performing a post mortem autopsy on the plant. Anatomy lesson this hour: the stem. My plant's stem is hollow. Higher up in the second picture it's more filled in. The stem crucial for water and nutrient delivery. Is this a normal stem?FullSizeRender(1).jpg

I would say it was a Sativa, or Sativa dom. Strain bye the hole down the center.

Indica's tend to have a filled in, no straw like apperance stems.

Yes it's normal. and the more water the plant has, the smaller the hole becomes.

My two.

Well it is not solid as iron. Lots of pheno's can have different kind of traits. A bunch of pheno's will have a bit of both in them.

Some can lean entirely one way or another. The important part is that it is normal in cannabis.

We ever hear this:

One dead giveaway of insufficient calcium levels is hollow stems. Most of the time this is identified after harvesting, but throughout the plant’s life you can lightly pinch a stalk or stem to feel if it is hollow or if it has a nice woody core. From here:

eficiencies will cause the medium to become acidic and will lower your PH. A shortage of calcium will appear as both magnesium and iron deficiencies. You may also check harvested plants for hollow stems as a sign of inadequate calcium. deficiencies will cause the medium to become acidic and will lower your PH. I don't agree that lack of calcium causes hollow stems. As far as I no all MJ plants have a small hollow core in all the branch stems and the main stem and is natural not caused by cal def.
