Hey guys,

Anyone here a bird lover? I have a problem over here.... I've got a pair of Cardinals that decided to move into a bush next to the front door to my house about 5ft high. They are building a nest, but they need to go. The bush is right next to my door and my house cat has taken a keen interest in them. The male Cardinal is ballsy, keeps doing flybys and hopping about on the ground within a few feet of me and the cat. The cat will eventually eat the bird.

There's no eggs or anything yet, so thinking I would pull out the half built nest and hopefully they will move elsewhere? Any other options?

Here is the male waiting for me to step outside... seems I insulted his wife or something.

Here he is in his bush, protecting his very low nest.

"uuuuggghhhh.."

He got wind that you had mad growing skills and he wants you to teach him how ...

Destroying the nest could save his life ... :dunno:

You might try moving it if you can. Wear gloves or something to hide your scent would be best. Maybe hang a feeder in the bush/tree you move it to. Idk if it will work but the only other option I can think of is to destroy if your cat can/will get to it. Just try to do it asap!

"My 2 cents"

adding: that caption of "insulting his wife" :roflcry:

gorgeous birds those Cardinals are :peace:

A male cardinal...COOL!

We don't get those around here...

I would also suggest just removing the nest, especially if there are no eggs yet. They will find a new place to build another one.

Agreed, now is the time.

I shoved some flashy old CD's into a bush to get rid of Sapsucker's, and it worked like a charm.

They think there are other birds in the vacinity, and scatter.

Make sure the CD's are very reflective.

I also hang them in my veggy garden to keep the birds out.

hope it helps.

Thanks fellas, I read up a bit on these birds since my first post.
I removed the nesting material from the bush and put a couple CD's in there, but these bird brains started another nest on the other side of the bush! The new nest is still inconvenient but is at least a few feet higher up. It's more well developed so don't want to disrupt it at this point. I'm gonna put some chicken wire around the bottom of the bush to prevent the cat from climbing on up per another recommendation.

Right on Nomis,

Just keep your cat fat, so's it can't jump so high. ha ha ha, just hackin' on ya.

Good luck with the feathered freinds.

Peace

Pretty birds Cardinals are. I would just keep removing the nest as they keep trying to build it. Eventually they will get the hint and move elsewhere. Put your scent all over everything in that area, hang cd's, or put up a fake predatory bird decoy nearby.

Seems the other nest must have been going for quite some time already as I found this in the bush today. The cat is on supervised visitation to the outdoors now.
