it's my understanding that alot of the autoflower genetics come from Siberia, true? If so I assume that the most cold resistant strains would be autos.

whats the coldest climate you have grown in? was it an auto? what kind was it?

That's also my understanding, that autos evolved in colder climates with shorter growing seasons. I've grown them into mid to late November here in TN. Night time temps were getting into the low 30s and frost warnings a couple nights. Once the root temps get into the 50s growing pretty much stops. They won't die, just won't grow anymore. The ones I had out that late were some Mi5s. I left them for 15 weeks total, but they didn't grow the last 3 + weeks. Cold temps also inhibit the plants ability to take up P. With the Mi5 it turned them a beautiful purple color. There's an album of the pics on my profile.

I also left a small plant on the window sill in my garage all winter. It just sat, didn't grow but didn't die either, even with sub freezing temps a few nights. In the spring when the days started getting longer and warmer it started growing again. Eventually I put it under one of my LEDs. The center stalk, which was only about 4" tall didn't grow anymore but it shot off about 6 new side branches and ended up producing an oz. and a half a full six months after it sprouted.

Thanks for the input Muddy.
From what you are saying autos can go into a stasis mode if left in cold conditions?
This sounds like something to experiment with... Maybe warm soil so roots can grow but cold air so the plant stays alive. Could be good to get plants bigger or even possibly a new method of cloning autos.
It could also maybe be interesting to see how long one can live in a cold environment without growing then successfully grown after 6 months or a year. So maybe dispensaries could cold ship live plants to led patients so they don't have to bother germing seeds.

That's been my experience, although it was just the one plant. I got excess males from a batch of Jet47 I've got going right now. I've left two of them on the garage window sill again just to see what happens. They already had some flower pods but they hadn't opened yet. They have been sitting there about 3 weeks now, still alive and looking good, but aren't growing and the pods haven't opened. I may take one of them and move it to a nursery bed I have for tree saplings. Mulch it down good and see if it will overwinter and come back in the spring.

I believe someone, maybe JM, has been taking cuttings and storing them in refrigerator so slow their growth. This is certainly an area that warrants more study and experimentation.

Hopefully others see this thread and contribute as well.

Could you please keep me posted on the males you have in the cold? I'll start my own experimenting with this as soon as I get moved into my new place.

Will do. If I forget, just remind me.

hey muddy what ever happend to the males you had in the cold? still alive?

Yep, still sitting on the window sill. I just checked yesterday, I set them there on Jan 4th. I've only watered them twice, once in the beginning and again about 3 weeks ago. With the days starting to get longer and the temps rising, I'm seeing their balls are starting to swell a bit. They are starting to wake up from the dormant state they have been in.

good to hear! wow only 2 waterings? this would be very helpfull if someone is going away and wont be able to water their plants...3 week vacation coming up? No problem just put it in the fridge and rig it so the light stays on with the door closed.

Auto Seeds Berry Ryder boasts the ability to handle cold temps. I'm growing BR now, but I'm not manipulating the temps.

This is from Auto Seeds description:

"...The Blueberry genes add increased yield potential whilst maintaining the strong medical effect and legendary berry taste. The plant can turn blue especially under colder night time temperatures which it can cope with easily. Ready in as little as 60 days from seed."
