Mephisto Genetics Anyone grow Mephistos in coco

Coco is the best medium in my experience. I have grown mephistos in every medium. I am basing “best” on combination of yield, and ease.
My soil plants are fairly easy to care for and typically yield anywhere from 30-50 grams. Some variation here and there.

My coco plants are about to have their first harvest but they are huge. 4ft tall in a 2 gallon smart pot huge. Coco is the easiest to maintain by far.

My hydro plants have been the heaviest yielders. Typically in the 4+Oz range. I had a hubbabubbasmelloscope give me 10.3oz last year. It was 7ft tall in a waterfarm. Dwc requires a lot more maintenance and care however.

What were your problems early on?

and how many days are those trident in the picture?

My problem is getting them started the root sometimes grows out the coco and I don’t get very fast growth.
I think looking at my others that cracked just after when I started dimming the lights they look a lot better so thinking it’s just to much to soon.

Not sure how old they were there

Day 57 and 56 in the pictures here, not the biggest but the flowers look good

My coco is precharged with beetle frass & presoaked with grow feed @ .8EC/400ppm, I germinate my seeds in this & as soon as they have formed their first set of serrated leaves they get fed 1.0EC from then onwards. My water is extremely soft @ 40ppm & so I run my PH high at 6.4 the entire grow to maximise Ca uptake.

I like to germinate in little 500ml root pouches and then pop the pouches directly into the final 8l ones around a week later or when there`s good roots showing, I let the coco almost dry out a couple of times in that first week too which goes a bit against the grain but works fine for me. :nicethread:

Glad that works for you, but letting your Coco dry out too much is bad for the roots and salts build up the Coco. A good alternative is to bottom feed the first week, to promote downward root Growth and avoid over watering. That being said, if it works for you then fine. Keeping the Coco moist, not soaked during first 2 weeks is optimal, watering on the outer rim of the pot in Coco if watering from the top. I also precharge and feed strong like you. Good work, peace slow

I certainly wouldn't argue with you bro, I know unequivocally that it goes against what`s considered the norm, thing is I`ve always treated my seedlings in coco same i do in compost, allowing them to do a couple of wet/dry cycles before I transplant them to their larger final pot.
I don`t consider an EC of 0.8 - 1 to be a strong feed either, in fact some of the water has a background EC of 0.8 here in the UK, my friend down south starts his seedlings on 1.6 EC feeds in coco!

Just to confirm again, I don`t recommend this. Just that yeah, it works fine for me, in fact & i`m reluctant to admit this because it is so far from whats considered the rule of thumb... But..
I`ve got a very large 102 day old pineapple express auto going well in coco that has been getting a wet/dry cycle at-least once per day for well over a month, as I haven't bothered automating my feeds, just feeding 3x daily manually & from the night time feed through to morning feed the coco has almost completely dried out every morning. I have`nt noticed any negative effects to this, in fact she`s absolutely thriving & will probably end up as the biggest auto i`ve grown to date! She drinks over 6l daily.
All the best! :d5:

You are right, as long as you don't dry out too much. Especially with some nutes . If they dry out too much, even 1x it can burn the plant and damage the roots. I feed multiple times per day and use small pots . So I totally understand having to feed 3x per day. It is just a fine line, where if life happens and they dry out too much and, you will have some damage. Good work, peace slow
