Lighting Anyone know these, 600w UFO?

If want to used a 600w Led your going to want to get a panel I would not trust a ufo design for that high of output that also maybe why the actuall wattage is so low. You look at the panels actual wattage will be at least 50% of what they adverstise that ufo isn't even 50% of 600w. I'd tell you if you want something in the same price range but more efficient get two 300w lights panels from mars or vipar
Leds. You get 360w and the ability to adjust your light according to multiple sized plants:thumbs:

Ufo work best 75-180w anything over that is overkill for the design and won't work as well as a panel at the same wattage.:Sharing One:

Yeah i have a small 180w UFO from Vipar already, seems to work pretty good.
I have been looking at the V300 from Vipar many times in the past two months.. might be the ones im gonna go with.

Im not really sure if they are worth trying, im not that good with the LED stuff..

Small UFO style lights are good in small cabinets, but for a large grow area, the circular light footprint is not effivient in a rectangular grow space. Stick with aconvention shape grow light IMO.

How's my Chinese UFO for actual draw vs. watt rating - 50x3W yet only 30W draw?

The seller refuses to sell me a proper driver because "it would only damage the light". :dunno:
I've been looking into constant current drivers but I don't want to risk not having even the 30W because I don't know much about them...

People see Led and think low energy, less heat, longer life span and forget leds are the hardest of all lights to shop for. You have to know what you want to achive in your grow space and find out which light will do the best for the job. Cant buy the cheapest or even the most expensive and expect a great outcome if you don't know what your aiming for. I say set a overall goal for yourself if your on a budget I saw shop for the best lights in your price range don't go cheap unless you know it will work and also on the flip side do go buy the most expensive light you can find if your not taking in consideration your grow space and how you need it to perform. It sound like its easy and it is when you know what your doing but its the hardest light to understand but study how they work and it'll make it a lot easier shopping for them.

I found out after I received the light. The solder of the positive output wire had snapped off during shipping and I had to solder it back on myself. I knew beforehand that the power draw would be waaaay lower than 150W because in my previous grow I had used four dirt-cheap 10W bulbs (3 red, 2 blue). I originally assumed that would be 40W but it was 17W and that's where I learned the name of the game.

I figured these generic Chinese LEDs would all draw about the same ~40% of their watt rating so it came to me as a surprise when the UFO was only 30W.

They won't refund you most likely because you opened the light. Most companies won't let you return a light thats been modified. I understand the light was broken when you got it but the best thing to do would have been soon as u plugged it and it didn't work was email the company and say u needed a new light or you want a refund but since you went in and fixed it yourself its easier for them to tell you know about a return.

Your about right most Chinese leds run about 40-60% there are some good ones yiu just have to know what to look for. I hear a lot of people down Chinese lights because they are so cheap people think they must be cutting corners when really its a economy thing. Most companies import parts from china thats why theu charge more money as where Chinese make most the parts so they can sell for cheaper. Its like me owning a dispensary and I charge you 25 a gram because I have to pay thr growers to stock my product where is if I grew my own I could sell for 18-20 a gram. China manufacturers don't have a middle man to go thru so to say they are cutting corners because they are cheap is a real misconception if you know how markets work you see why they can sell them so cheap. Dont get me wrong their are some bad one but LED is a feild where if you do it right I can make u a lot money Chinese trying to take the market early and they can do that since they are the base of operation for most led companies.

1 rule of thumb I will always consider, when purchasing a new led.....If the company does not post the actual draw in the description, stay away! I was taken on a ufo purchase a while back and learned the hard way, myself. You certainly get what you pay for. Buyer beware on led's from ebay or amazon!

Think about this if Chinese make a 100w light and sell it to a led company they will up the price 50-100% thats business ethics. So if the Chinese are used to selling leds at a lower price to led companies what's the differnece them selling us the same light but for the same price or maybe 5-10% more they would sell to led company.

My 300 watt Mars Hydro draws 180-184 watts. All three of my light average 60% of rated power and that's the norm from what I can see. I'm suspecting they sold you a 90 watt unit and said it was a 150 watt light. Thats's why I buy on ebay, if you suspect you got screwed, ebay will step in. I've had to do that with another item one time and within a week, I had my money back.

I thought about not opening the light for this very reason but I really didn't care about returning it because it would've surely taken months to get any sort of refund. I figured if it's not gonna work at all I'd rather buy a 'proper' one. But since I got it working I didn't feel the need to. I asked for a new power supply as a settlement which they didn't want to give. After that I asked if I could buy one that was more powerful than 30W. They said I'd just break the light. So I gave up on them, thinking if I don't get good enough results for personal use I'd swap lights again.

I'd either replace the driver, or write it off and buy a Mars Hydro unit
