Hey everybody,

I apologize if there has been coverage on this already, but I will soon be switching up location (from house to appt) and am looking to shop for some strains that are known to not be so stinky!

I'll only be running 1 plant in my dwc bucket and I have some of those scented balls (the ones that evaporate) to help me out. I was wondering too if getting a growbox, such as one of the Gorilla Grow Boxes, would help out with the smell? I'll be growing in a closet -- whichever closet is furthest from the front door -- and would preferably like to keep the smell limited to the closet itself. My roommate (and girlfriend) has been nice enough to allow this in our living space, and so I'd like to be respectful to her by mitigating some of that glorious stench!... She doesn't exactly share the same appreciation for it as I do :)

I have some auto-xtreme seeds I'd like to try out, but I have a sneaking suspicion that she will be a stinky one....

Any suggestions on some uplifting strains that aren't so pungent, AFN?

Thanks and best wishes,

GK

Hey man, I haven't grown a whole lot of strains but the last smelly throughout the growing period was Northern Lights - I did receive her as a freebie so you can never really be sure of the quality of genetics but it's the only strain I can think of that didn't really smell.
Also if you get a powerful enough fan/carbon filter combo you shouldn't have to worry about any smells escaping unless you actually open up the cupboard/tent whilst people are in the room, then chances are they will get a whiff  I'd suggest using a carbon filter inside the tent/cupboard and then placing those "scented balls" (lol) around the room that the cupboard is in to neutralise the air a bit.
Sorry I can't be more helpful with strains, best of luck :Sharing One:

You really need a carbon filter imo

and also a big pair of balls to go with that filter if your not in a med state
i wouldn't risk it in an apartment without good odor control setup in place
all strains will be apartment friendly then.

Northern lights goes through a few stages. A lot of people will say its low odor, but their are stages in growth where a strong pine lemon scent will come off it, and a but of a skunk, but its the least smelling strain I have. That and barneys farm lsd. But that's a photo plant. Good luck.

Thanks for all the informative replies fellas!

Sounds like I'll have to get a carbon filter and a tent then.... Maybe that'd be best -- so then within the closet space I'd have the zip-up tent with a carbon filter, my two led panels and dwc bucket inside....

We've got our mandatory minimums for 6+ plants...But anything less than that is a slap on the wrist, I think, or a small fine at best... I'd be more worried about jeopardizing my living situation -- if it were to be so pungent to leak into the hallway (which I don't THINK it should....since it doesn't travel past the threshold of my house at the moment) but I'd like to also be respectful to whom I'm living with! So I might just forget about it unless I buy a tent and filter!...

Kind of sounds like you're from Ontario with the mandatory sentence for 6 lol

I lived in a pretty big 3 story building and trying to mask the smell never ever worked! No way i would try that again without a carbon filter and even then i would still be paranoid

here is a tip i learned, get a 4" fan and carbon filter combo of ebay as a standalone in addition to the carbon filter you need to acquire for your tent.

You place this outside the tent,
any time your working in the grow room you have the second filter running outside to be super careful of smell escaping. You can also place it around the house prior to visitors etc to scrub air.
Also help full when drying, harvesting etc, all activities carried out outside your space

you just stand the fan on the filter, no duct req etc

good luck :bong:

I am surprised there is no company out there who caters for small op growers with one or two plants. Who have found ways to vent a small space such as a wardrobe with a small fan / filter.

The smallest fan / filter I can find is 4" with the filter being a bit bigger, but this still makes quite a bit of noise. I had a 4" rvk fan before and it was like a small jet taking off, not ideal for one plant or when you need to sleep in the same room as the grow.

My single plant is starting to stink, but smell is not an issue here. I air the room out daily and told the old girl upstairs what I was doing.

Does anyone know of any small style fan / filters available out there. or is 4" the lowest they go?

I've no carbon filter and only running a fan to have air flow through buds. That's why low odor is main attribute when choosing strain, for that peace of mind.
So, Sugar black rose (delicious seeds) and Masterkush (dp) are my recommendations. Both at their scent peak when in early flower but those balls should take care of that. They are photos, though.
Betty boo is only AF I've grown and it has really mildly scented ones but also some diesel stinkers  (CF must!), depending on pheno.

edit: uplifting? MK not so much best if you play some instrument or stroll around in nature, SBR I haven't even sampled yet. BB for sure has up high makes you want to exercise :D
