Mephisto Genetics Artisanal Automatics; The Next Generation

First - Anything that's slow growing, lacking in vigor, displaying odd or undesirable qualities, goes to the bin.
That's before any are transplanted.

Then it's a case of working through the transplanted ones, dividing the group into phenotypes/size and structure.
Then looking deeper at traits like resin production, aroma and making finer selections from there.

Selecting what we feel are the best examples and how we'd like the end product to be for customers when they grow it out.

There's always a lot of un-selected plants left to flower out as normal, and these are the ones we will save samples of for testing, the old fashioned way :) and the scientific way. As we generally run projects during a similar timeframe and time of year, we get these samples tested at fairs.
So you aren't yet using say handheld IR or other spectrometers to assess terpene profiles , using DNA probes to quantify selected (e.g., resin-associated) gene expression (just testing, no genetic engineering), screening for rapid cell/tissue growth in micro-culture, etc.? Do other breeders use such analytical methods and bioassays in their cannabis breeding programs?

If you know of people doing that.. Let us know. It's still a clandestine industry for the most part. And as consumers (us included in this too) there's a big element of luck as to whether a) you can attach a name to the seeds you're buying and who made them, and b) are they actually the seeds you order.

Some companies may have in-house GC available, at least for autos you could test for ratio's before the window for pollination which could aid your selections.

Tim's better half has a phd in microbiology and we'd love to put her to use, but we don't have a lab she could utilize and neither could we afford her.

So right now it's playing a numbers game, using our experience and physical senses to determine the aspects we can and better what we are working with.

If there's a point, time and place when we could access such tools, amazing, I'm all for it.

Wow you guys are amazing. Your selection of genes is always spot on you know what the growers want. New strains from Mephisto is Always a mouthwatering proposition. Can't wait for the next generation. All the strains sound just wonderful

Thanks!

There's so many more strains we'd like to do... It's a never-ending wish list.

It's all go in the artisanal room at the moment.

We've done the selections and potted up 4 of the 6 lights so far.
Just waiting on Walter white , not an artisanal strain I know, but we wanted to re-work them and see if we can't solve the issues with that stock, and also we're waiting on gbd's Tyrone stomper and white stomper projects.

Should have a nice update in a couple of days.

Cheers

Will Tyrone stomper be part of the line?

We'll be making Tyrone stomper regs, and then possibly a fem version of white stomper, since we have Walter white in the room.

For now we're just going to evaluate as we go along.

We'll get an in depth update together in a few days time.

Cheers!
