Yeah he's talking about throwing it away so I don't see why he'd be scared to try it. That works too, do some trimming of the fan leaves and then switch the next day. The goal is to shock the plant in a minor fashion and switch the lighting so while the hormones are responding to the shock it stops vertical growth and the light switch activates the flowering process. I've super cropped, FIM'd and even crushed the base of my stem before flowering to control vertical height. I still do it and will continue to.. I have great yields and the plants are the exact height I can handle. I stop all of my plants right at about ~3.5 feet and by the end of flower they're no more than 3ft 7" (main cola will grow a little bit). Now for autos you wouldn't do this, because shock/stunt = lost time, period, can't get it back. With this plant you've vegged it, you set the tone for it and you have much more control over it.
